Simpson is copping flak and walking back his comments. But everyone knows that he simply said the quiet bit out loud. Yes, there are some nice success stories of players from tough backgrounds. There always will be. But in terms of numbers and percentages, you are always going to get more successful people in any walk of life from a background of stability and financial comfort. Since everyone is throwing around anecdotes about players who did it the hard way, here's another story: an interview with Max Gawn 2-3 years ago revealed that only 2 players on Melbourne's list went to public schools, himself and Jetta. I know that is skewed a bit by private schools offering scholarships, but even so, it's a startling figure. And so back to the WAFL... not many kids from the Queens Park - Gosnells corridor attend private schools. So if AFL ambitions are reduced, that will flow through to lower WAFL participation for those kids who attend tough public schools in tough areas.

Cheddar maybe not knowing what a private school is STT.

Either that or he thinks he is rebuking Freezes post about Perth having two private schools in their zone.

Freez for all his confident posts should know that WAFL club’s are not aligned to schools.

it is where the kids live.

80% of the kids that go to trinity and Aquinus don’t live in the Perth district. Unlike 80% of the kids that go to Christchurch and Scotch and Haley live in Claremonts district.

Frees although funny sometimes is just someone not to pay much attention to. Can’t grasp the bigger picture. This is a shame but there are so many like him.

seem to live the WAFL but don’t try to improve it. Sad

Victorians still laugh at West Aussies because of the way we bailed out the vfl and then allowed it to be called it the AFL!

TFAF not sure what I can do about this sad state of affairs TBH....if you guys can't do anything ...and you live on the proverbial WAFL doorstep, .....not sure what me and my mate Mr Tui are gonna do about it from Orange Theory Stadium mate......what does Bobby Shields  have to say about it?.....or other esteemed PFC leaders before him?....or is this simply a  STT concocted conspiracy theory that you boys have been sucked into.

Thanks for the private school residence lesson too TFAF......and there was me thinking old Aquinians in Paddy and Benny chose EF over Perth because PFC development program was non existent....all makes sense now.

Only PSA schools count as private schools as it suits STD’s argument.

EP and SD doing an amazing job at the top of the colts ladder - all their PSA schools must be driving their success? Or have they banned fast food stores from their district? Maybe there’s no divorce  in these districts? No alcohol or drug issues either?

Or maybe they engage with their junior clubs and provide an environment that these players want to be part of?

In my opinion, the last part of TT’s post is a critical first step. It won’t guarantee success but there will be none without that simple level of engagement.
Stand the Test, what I’ve been trying to ask you is whether Perth  FC have done everything in their power about those basic things because without that evidence why should every zone change?
I’m not having a crack, but just saying it’s the zone or it’s hard work is not enough. Sure it’s hard, but it’s hard for Swans and East Perth too. The socioeconomic situation might be part of it but surely it is not the only cause. Have all other causes been eliminated? It seems plenty of posters within the Perth zone don’t think they have, and not even on the most basic level.
what is Perth doing in those areas of engagement?

FFS. We have been a basket case for 40 years. Let's say for the first 10, we thought it was cyclical and would turn around of its own accord. Do you think that, for the last 30 years, through numerous league and colts coaches, Presidents, CEOs, footy managers, board members, etc, etc, not one person has proposed engaging with our zone? Or worse, do you seriously think that people have raised it, but it has been voted down? That we have known that we could turn around our fortunes in a few years just by "engaging" with our zone (whatever you think that means), but we have decided not to? Has no-one from Perth spoken to counterparts from other clubs? We have had coaches and administrators from other clubs, successful ones like SF or C. Haven't they passed on their methods of engaging and suggested we do the same? You guys just don't think it through, you're so fixated on your asinine "pull yourself up by your bootstraps" approach to life that you don't understand reality. But, yeah, sure, have it your way, the PFC has chosen to self-sabotage for 30 years.
