The budget doesn't lie. Just take your pick any week and see Perth lists are from all over the place, just about as many blow ins as there are locals and 200cm players are as rare as rocking horse shit.

Now if Perth aren't working their zones hard enough and not identifying these talents then they would be showing up at other clubs. Where are they? How many Perth boys from our districts do you find on other WAFL clubs lists? Fuck all.
It is not exactly 100% accurate either!

For example it states where a player is recruited from but not where they might have originated from.

DD, the problem with your argument is that “talent” that is not developed just withers on the vine and fades away. It does not spring up on another club’s senior list. Players “leave” their zoned club mostly for more opportunities at another club.

The WAFL needs a strong Perth. Massive zone relocation or a 5 year deal with the devil at 300K a year. Not another Subi or Claremont flag at any level should be applauded and most importantly West Perth to pay their debts - to also hang their head in shame until every dollar paid back. They should also lose 2 of their most prised zones - as they obviously can't afford to pay maintenance on them. Change name to Joondalup too

Victorians still laugh at West Aussies because of the way we bailed out the vfl and then allowed it to be called it the AFL!

Considering the 80s was a strong era of footy and Perth never played or won a GF and the 90s were ok post WCE.....not sure what TFAF means by the WAFL needs a strong PFC.....over the past decade the WAFL has been regarded the next best comp after the AFL with wins over the VFL and SANFL.....

Does TFAF mean the WAFL needs a strong Perth to stop the WAFL from being a boring comp?....Pretty sure the WP, SF, Cl and Subi boys have enjoyed going to the footy of late.....

Another well thought out piece by JT about the subject and some other things in The West today. I wont copy and paste as people sit here and criticise The West but gobble up every football article they can get their cheap hands on. Put your hand in your pocket if you want a read

I have no idea why some posters on here have a crack at John T, he is one of, if not the best WAFL writers in the State, he is one of last to recall the golden era, has a passion for the local game most others havent, esp given that other outlets like WA Today, The ABC, have all but dumped WAFL coverage.

Centrals Conference actually starts in year 8 Grump. Talent identified then at Perth, EP and Swans. They put a fair bit of effort into year 8 boys, a lot of effort into year 9 boys and a heap into the year 10 boys - most playing futures.

After year 10 the private school boys that are any good don't play in the central, northern or souther conference any more as their schools don't allow them to.

The year 11 and 12 boys in the conference from this point are pretty well left alone with only a few breaking into the various WAFL colts programs, All identified like I said at an earlier age. This is something that can be improved - some boys only grow late.

Look Perth have had an even worse year than normal and there are some drums beating louder than usual for change. Even DD is open to the idea of an alignment under the right conditions. I think that would be 5 years at a profit of $300K a year and 2 premierships.

I imagine WC are going to put an offer on the table.

If we get our zones rejuvenated and get the Grand Stand done we wont need it.

Start a new team in Armadale - Armadale Hawkes - they can have Gosnells from Perth and Armadale from South Freo and Byford from East Freo and they can be aligned to WC.

Great for the area, WC can then help this struggling community to do something and have their reserves team
