BH isn’t it interesting that 40 years of a lack of interest in their local junior and Senior community clubs aligns with 40 years of Perth being in the WAFL wilderness.

I remember Watling attended a few times on behalf of  WP in the northern suburbs.

TT, why don't we swap zones and see how Claremont goes with what PFC has had to deal with in the past 40 years.
It would not be long before you started screaming at the WAFC for help.

I bailed up a commissioner once on this issue. He told me that pfc have same population in our zone as other clubs.

Surely if there is an obvious problem you fix it. WAFC causes more problems than it fixes.

Jesus wept.
STT, we may well have similar population in our zones as other clubd have. That is meaningless.
The true comparison is the socio economic demagraphics. Our country zones eg Northam, Avon etc. are not too bad and we get a good supply of players from those zones, but, alas, not quality in the numbers of other clubs. Certainly not of the same quality as EF (Geraldton, Northampton etc) or Claremont (Albany, Mt Barker etc along with some choice areas in the Western and Northern suburbs) as examples.
However, our local junior suburbs South Perth, Vic Park, Manning, Canning, Queens Park, Belmont etc, once the stronghold of our junior football, no longer have the number of young families we once were endowed with. These areas cannot be considered comparable to those of other WAFL clubs.
It would be interesting to analyse and compare all clubs on the criteria of population by young families, number of schools and number of junior clubs. One would presume that sort of data would have been in the review.
But then, nothing would change and the matter stay locked in the "we don't care" basket at WAFC.
Yep, Jesus did weep.

Remembering back to my junior days in the East Perth zone, Bayswater+Morley Police boys.
Remember a once a year open day at Perth Oval.Where the juniors spoke to league coaches +players. The preliminary and Grand Finals where played at Perth Oval. And players use to hand out the Premiership trophy and participation medallions.
Can remember John Ironmonger,Dean Turner,Glenn Robertson,Grant Campbell. All  watching our matches and involved after the game.Even remember the coach of the day Grant Dorrington taking us on training drills. And speaking to us juniors about  Wafl Football.
It's a different Wafl today to back then.It appears that Perth in there golden era. Where committed as strongly to there zone also.

I spoke first hand to a development (Futures assistant coach) at one of the WAFL clubs. He basically said Perth are a laughing stock. Everyone begs to play them in the limited amount of games these future comps have and he unambiguously said it was because of "their shit zone".

This is well known. Dorrington and the hangers on over the last 25 years should not be welcome at any WAFC event ever again.
Victorians still laugh at West Aussies because of the way we bailed out the vfl and then allowed it to be called it the AFL!

Also just asked my mate who coaches at Manning Juniors year 8. Perth boys have been down there to meet some of the players and take a session or two over the years he has been involved. Not often but there. I am at Coolbinia (have been for 6-7 years) and I have seen East Perth players in 2020 and 2019.

Great memories there GTR where i played for Coolbinia Yokine in my one and only G.F. against Angelo Delborello's Morley Policeboys in the under 14s in 1977 at the glorious Perth Oval, and although we lost i was over the moon getting a best player trophy from my hero Peter Spencer, but unfortunately juniors from today wouldn't be as enthralled receiving an award from a WAFL champion who were gods in our day.

gtrxuone, RL  sounds like we played in the EP junior zone at a similar time.....just at different success spectrums ....Morley Police boys defied their Footscray jumpers to dominate the comp most years....and Bayswater too.....Sadly East Perth Highgate, My Lawley and to a lesser extent Maylands never played a prelim or GF at Perth Oval.....though do remember the likes of Otway, Ironmonger,Spencer, Sparks etc popping down mid season to my club/s and taking circle work with us or ripping the shit out of our 15-20 goal shellacking the weekend prior at mid week training.....always great to get their signatures post sessions......and share and orange squash or two with them as well talking footy.

Sounds like you were a year younger than me RL. I started at Morley Police Boys but switched to Bedford after learning most of my school mates at Hillcrest primary played for Bedford. Morley were really strong and had two teams red and blue, probably would have struggled for a game at Morley anyway as they were as you say one of the stronger clubs along with Bayswater and St Marks. Sounds like you played against the younger Delborello who went on to play for East Perth. They lived just around the corner from me on Drake st, I lived on Catherine st. Our best year was in u/15's in 1978. We beat everyone but finished second, lost the second semi against Morley and we probably played our worst game in the prelim against St Marks who knocked us out.

I can only remember former Fitzroy and East Perth great Kevin Murray coming down to training one night at Cook reserve and I was in awe of the guy. Was in his full Fitzroy kit, jumper boots socks and all. Was built like an adonis and had a few tatts. I think he was in his last years or maybe just retired. I had his footy card at home so recognized him straight away.
Get on your bike.
It was Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve.
