From under 8's through to 17's just before colts.Only 3 clubs won flags.Morley, Bayswater+St Mark's.Can remember Bedford being competitive but not good enough to challenge the top 3.
Remember when Noranda started 1981 of 82.Beating then by 40 odd goals.

Yes GTR,Freezin and DD the Royals zone was very powerful in those days and league players had an aura about them and D.D did you ever play against Bayswater's ''NODDY'' who had a bit of a small ''peg''type of arm and was a very aggressive and nuggetty young fella and i made sure i kept well clear of him as his impediment didn't stop him whacking a few with his ''good'' arm.

BH isn’t it interesting that 40 years of a lack of interest in their local junior and Senior community clubs aligns with 40 years of Perth being in the WAFL wilderness.

TT, why don't we swap zones and see how Claremont goes with what PFC has had to deal with in the past 40 years.
It would not be long before you started screaming at the WAFC for help.

Smokey, I’ve followed this thread very spasmodically (50 plus posts gets boringly repetitive).  However, if you swapped zones with the Monts, the obvious result, going by a large percentage of posts here, is that Perth would run that zone down as well??

Surprisingly Murry Cooper came to our Subiaco zone primary school in 1978. He talked a lot about practice . I was impressed he came, but he didn't show us his kicking.

Ron Bayens came down to training one night around that time too.

Subiaco stalwart Jack Dunstan organised that.

The socio economic factor is very real as i previously stated that the smaller Noranda zone has provided more listed players for our club than the larger more expansive Ballajura and Ellenbrook areas and i'm pretty sure the average median price in Noranda is higher than the other 2 suburbs.Another example of this is our recruitment of Jack Cooley from the ''Claremont colts production factory''and he's a 190cm 81kg midfielder and a ready made league footballer who the Tigers probably have an abundance of and his loss wouldn't raise a blip on their radar.

No don't remember him RL but like I said I think you are a year younger. Morley had a tough nut I think his nickname was Mugsy McGee 9r something similar. They said he a golden gloves boxer. I got temporarily knocked out when I tackled Jim in that second semi. Lol. They has a guy who could kick dropies 60m and a gun rover named Roche. Sadly he committed suicide when he was just 18 I only found out about 10 years ago. He was equally talented at soccer.

St Mark's were full of Italians and Greek's, a few of those boys were advanced in their development and remember a guy who played for EP Highgate, think his name was Shipman. Used to kick big barrels over 60m.

Our best players were Mark Lilburne who was our ruckman and Paul McKean, a nephew of ex Perth ruckman Chester McKean. He was a freak in the air.

Smokey you could have the EF and C zones and you’d still struggle to get a competitive colts side. The majority of Claremont zoned players would prefer to play for the local ammo clubs with their mates than travel across the city, past two other WAFL clubs they’d also rather play for, than go to a dysfunctional and poor performing Perth.

In regards to the Perth Futures being a laughing stock, the Perth Futures team finished third this year. Played 6 games and won 5 equal with second placed East Freo. Subi went through undefeated. Claremont finished 8th

Be interesting to see how many of Perth’s talented 15 & 16 year olds graduate to Perth colts over the next couple of seasons?

Considering Morley Police boys were so strong for such a long time, who from their sides went on to higher honours? Starcevich played at St Marks, Bain, Dennis and Papotto at Maylands in my junior days......at EPH we had a couple of indigenous boys who dominated, none went on to play league footy though.....I think Bayswater had a few Ninyette boys who were very good,

My age group started to thin out as far as league talent went with only Angelo Delborello going on to play 100 league games, with Bruce Stewart,Ian Berry and Gavin Hawkins being the only other juniors to rack up a few league games, and the biggest problem confronting East Perth, West Perth and Perth in the early eighties was the changing dynamics of inner city living where the quarter acre blocks started making way for subdivisions, units and flats which led to more transient tennants and less families. In our junior zone Maylands and East Perth Highgate junior clubs became defunct and as a result East Perth and West Perth started to struggle on field from the mid eighties onwards, while Perth had already fallen of the cliff after a golden era by the end of the '70s
