Can’t believe there are south supporters picking to go to the Doig Medal show rather than GF,

According to the Subi website there's over 25,000 tickets sold which no doubt would be on the back of Swans playing in the colts and Perth in the ressies to some extent. I guess there may also be some latent demand for those who missed out on tickets to the AFL GF. It does make a mockery of last year's decision to play the GF at Freo Oval.
Given 20,000 tickets had apparently been sold prior to half the teams even qualifying is obviously nothing to do with what teams are playing and something else is at play here, and I suspect it’s the covid factor with people keen to do something and get out in school holidays as no ones been away or anything for ages and this time last year we were effectively still in lockdown, this is backed up by the record numbers attending the Royal Show the 60000 ticket allocation selling out first few days of the show.
BC given the covid restrictions had any crowd capped at 10,000 last year and we had just come out of lockdown , no idea where you are coming from regarding last years GF, the crowd was always going to be capped regardless of where it was played and the league making a 1/4 mill profit on the day was a long long way from a mockery.

Swans in the colts and Perth in the ressies would have bumped the numbers a bit plus I think with all the hoopla around the AFL GF and so few average punters getting a look in, it's resulted in extra interest for the WAFL. Then again it could be down to Subi's huge following and out current premiership drought.

That's not my recollection of last year Baz. It was capped at 10k so it wouldn't put unnecessary strain on Freo Oval's crumbling infrastructure as the place couldn't cope with any more. They didn't think they'd get more than 20k at Optus so moved it to Freo due to financial considerations only.

Fair enough but looking at the vision of people sitting on the concrete steps you wouldn't have got too many more in there anyway restrictions or not. We've had this conversation before with others on here and you're the only one who thought it was a good move at the time so think your red and white glasses have given you an imbalanced view which is understandable I guess. Anyway, good luck for tomorrow and here's hoping it's a cracking game.

26,000 tickets now sold. Hopefully another 5000 plus turn up and buy at the gate.

Anyone turning up early to watch the reserves the only gate open is Gate A which I think is closest to the train station. The other gates open at 12pm I think.

Gate opens at 9 am, bouncedown at 9.20.

27000 now. Hopefully they open the gate on time. 2019 they were late and I missed half the first quarter. Not all the media is going for Subi, John Townsend chose South’s today
