Bazza, there are still massive inequities regarding finances at AFL level but it doesn't guarantee success. WC are the biggest richest club in the comp but it doesn't guarantee winning flags every year. Their equalisation is via the draft. You dont play AFL unless you get drafted via the various drafts or the father son rule. that single mechanism has made the difference from the days of VFL in the 60's, 70's and 80's.

A draft for the WAFL doesn't work as the clubs are district based. It's the equalisation of the district zones that is the only mechanism that will address any inequities. Each club needs to have similar numbers of junior clubs, teams and players to each other then it's up to them to get the most out of their zones. There needs to be strict control ensuring those lads at the big private schools are tied to their parents addresses and not "relocated' to rellies within another zone, not that I think too much of that happens. There is a salary cap and a points cap that needs to be strictly controlled. It's a mechanism that can allow for equalisation by increasing points and salary caps for underperforming clubs based on their previous 3-5 year performances. A club like Perth has money so increased caps will allow them to recruit ahead of others, that along with some rejigging of zones will address their issues but it will take a few years. It's the Commissions responsibility to raise struggling clubs up not pull down the successful clubs, ideally we want all 8 clubs up around the mark set by clubs like Subi, Souths and Claremont, not dragging those clubs down to the level of the under performing clubs.

Spot on SS, some punters on social media saying it was the worst standard gf they have ever seen and past $ubi premiership sides would kill this years side. Tbh I have to agree, who wants to waste their precious time watching dogshit level football, life is short

I strongly disagree. I watched the SANFL GF, as did a friend over east, and we both thought The WAFL GF was a much higher standard and Subi would have towelled them

I guess all Subi supporters would agree with you frothy.

For me, I never went to the GF and had no intention to go because I, like everyone else, knew what the result was going to be.  And don’t kid yourselves that I was on my own.  I plan to go to one when there is at least one new team in the game.  I reckon in that case, I’ll be among the extra 10k of people that are looking forward to something different.
Still, at my age I might not be around to see that!!!

I went along but it was somewhat reluctantly, the result was known before hand, certainly would not bother going as a neutral if South not there.

Subi supporters always come out with this tripe of not dragging down Subi, its utter garbage, its the same BS Carlton would come out when they controlled the came with cash in the 80s. Total bumkin, its akin to when the rich have a tax system that looks after them and they do everything to stop it changing.

Heard on the telegraph today that officialdom is thinking of running theTwenty 22 Wafl Grand final along the same time frame as how this season was. Personally speaking, would be a good move having plenty of clear air. That would facilitate the up-coming season perhaps  starting a week later. (if no virus lockups are forced upon everyone)

What worries me is how they said they are "thinking" of holding the wafl gf the week after the AFL gf on the Saturday arvo. We've all been saying for years and years that's how it should be and hey presto we get that (due to covid) and surprise surprise we get 30 thousand to a pretty predictable grand final match up. The cynic in me says that the AFL factions on the WAFC will go "jeez we don't want the WAFL getting media and public attention, let's go back to a Sunday arvo AFL preliminary final weekend WAFL grand final where we can go back to crowds of 20 thousand"
