When Basso was packed in the 70s and 80s from memory it was standing room only on most of the bank and was Fremantle, I happily stood all through last years GF , just as I had stood all through the 1979 GF at Subi on the old concrete steps when wafl was king. Great memories and what Wafl is all about, shoulder to shoulder with your mates.
I remember the time when there was seating all around Freo Oval behind the fence.  Speaking of fond memories it was great sitting on that seating watching South Freo training at halftime in a match against Swans.

But we are now in 2021 and it is not acceptable that the WAFL GF be played anywhere other than at the premier stadium in Perth.

yeah we are now in 2021 when 18,000 people turn up at a GF and we have to pay Ch 7 to cover it, and in 1979 we have near on 54,000 and Ch7 paid us for the rights and it was on Ch 2 as well plus 5 radio stations -  things have certainly improved in WAFL but Swan sure knock your self out mate on how great things are now.

Yeah and I have even fonder memories of us toweling up SD in the 1980 GF - once again standing on a concrete steps :)

We weren't ready in 1980.  Similarly, 1981 but those seasons lay the foundation for a hattrick of premierships in 1982-84.

Would I swap one GF win in 1980 for a hattrick of GFs in 1982-84?  No, I would not.

I could not care less as long as we beat you in the one we played you.

definitely right about standing mate - you wouldn't have seen one iota otherwise , the crowds made sure of that
used to go a burger personally and quite often got a whopper & fries at HJ's Melville to take in , ate the fries on the bus kept the Whopp for later on
Bus was the way to go mainly couldn't stand the traffic snarls getting out from Freo mate

Train earlier days when it was running before shut down, but the MTT Footy Special was the way to go with a special fleet put on from Freo for GF days to Subi, as you say it was the way to go, parking was a write off after about 10am.
