BC's post about Subiaco memorable moments gave me an idea which if nothing else will take our minds off this damn virus for 5 minutes.

I was thinking why don't we look at our teams opponent each weekend and recount a memorable victory in the past over this team.

For example Swans would have played Subiaco this week and one of my best memories of a game against them was in 2015 on a cold foul windy day at Bassendean when we snuck home by a point on the back of an incredible 20 tackle performance by Ryan Davis. It was nip and tuck all day but we just happened to have our noses in front at the final siren. Sadly this game is also the last time Swans beat Subiaco. BH, Swandog or other Swans fans may have a different game to recall.
So this weekends games would have been
SD V S
Perth v WCE
EF v C
EP v Peel
SF V WP

Perth supporters have limited material I know, but I recall you had a good victory over them in round 1 last year.
Lets see what we can come up with? If people are interested I will put up the "fixtures" every friday for people to comment.

1981 last round
1987 the return serve when we had the worst injury list in our history
Long history of Grand Final rivalry between the clubs - I think the only clubs West Perth have negative overall records against are the two Fremantle sides East & South Fremantle.
There's also been a history of players & coaches transferring between the clubs and of course there remains a strong Italian heritage shared by both clubs to this day

Good choice Mike.Remember that day well ,with the hail storm+blusterly SW breeze.Remember Subi kicking in the last qtr with at least a 5 goal breeze. To the Midland end. With a small 3\4 time lead.
Tim Geappen playing fullfwd one out against 3 Subi defenders+winning in the last qtr.
But it has to be 1979 a game with 60 goals scored.40 to Swans and 20 to Subi. That's a month's football for Swans these days.

Fantastic topic Mike.

GTR you beat me to it mate, the 1979 game at Bassendean Oval where SD put on a clinic in posting a record score 40.11 (251) with Mark Olsen kicking a lazy 13 majors against SU 20.9 (129) and Gary Buckenara kicking 9 snags himself from the centre for the hapless Lions.

Another couple that come to mind was one in 1984 at Subi Oval in the wet where we snuck home by a goal or so that showed Subi were on the improve under Bunton & the next year also at Subi in the wet where Garry Sidebottom played a beauty at CHF kicking half a dozen including a goal of the year nominee from the boundary 50m out at the 3 Tier Stand end after brushing off a few Lion defenders like flies.

There was a game under lights at Leederville in 2014 where we gave them a bit of a touch up which unfortunately might have kick started their run to that years flag in the aftermath.

Of course the 2008 win at Basso was pretty sweet too knocking off Subi and stopping them from having an undefeated season. :)

Some memorable games already mentioned, so I'll go for one that is sort of lost amongst the later matches in the year - Round 5 1979. It was the first time Swans crossed the 200 point threshold in their history, beating Subi 31.16 202 to 11.12 78.

Olsen's 13 against Subi 14 rounds later was remarkable considering he failed to add to the total after 3/4 time.

good posts: SD were far too good for us at that time. I have come to see the 60 goal game, believe it or not as a reasonable effort by Subiaco, bearring in mind that sides sometimes lost by up to 180 points in that era; that, given the form of SD at the time, could have easily happened to us that day, too.

-- SD more or less kicked 200 points in three games in a row between the clubs 1979-1980
-- there have been other games: SD beating German's side by a point?
-- there was a game at league headquarters in the 1990s, where both sides kicked over 20 goals, a game subi won narrowly. me thinks Cummings kicked a lot of goals for SD?

SH: did SD deliberately avoid kicking the ball to Olsen in the last quarter? Has only Ralph kicked more in a match since 1979?
