He certainly is a Monts man AR he was on their board recently too.
You can add him to those Claremont supporting commentary boxes as well.

thanks Bease, SH: I noticed it because in 1988, during the gf, he decried the fact that the crowd was pro- Subiaco and especially anti-Neesham. Big Keith Slater was certainly supporting Subi that day too, sat near him.

Funnily enough when viewing back our GF's vs Claremont over the years you notice they were all commentated by Claremont supporters- John Rogers in the 2 x 1980s, Wally Foreman in 1990 plus Glen Mitchell & Todd Ridley in 2010! B)

I recall Todd Ridley stating before the start of the 2010 grand final that he would "Swim to Sweden" if Swans won the flag. Guess he must be just about there by now!

Almost Mike, COVID-19 got him while swimming past Italy. BH's comment about Claremont barracker football commentators is interesting; some might remember the friction that sometimes existed when Foreman, Jenkins and Slater were behind the microphone with the ABC. Wasn't Spud there for the 1990 GF as experts commentator?

Good "footy" day today with a bit of rain about.
Today it would have been
EF v SD
PT v Perth
SF v Subi
EP v West Coast
WP v C

For those who have forgotten the idea is to cast your mind back to memorable games v the opposition your team would have been playing. For me the first game versus the Sharks that comes to mind was the 1984 grand final. Swans kicked 10 goals in the first quarter, EF kicked 9 in the 2nd, but we ended up prevailing in a great game of footy

The 1984 GF is the obvious SD vs EF highlight of my time as well Mike, that first qtr was the most scintillating display of football I have ever seen from a side in the biggest game of the year.
That EF side were no mugs either it contained the likes of Alexander, Rankin, K.Taylor, Browning, Brennan, Sterrett, Wilson, Waterson, Harding, Ellis, Bennett, Wrensted & Nolan that would all play in the vfl at some point of their careers plus it had very good WAFL stalwarts like Kerr, Kickett, Hoult, Green, Wake, Forman & Christie in the side as well so to put 10 goals on the board to zip with a SD team containing 1st year or inexperienced WAFL players in Renfree, S.Richardson, Ahmat, Caton, Outridge was a bloody good performance and then withheld the expected EF comeback in the 2nd qtr as well before kicking away late in the game into the breeze.
We had had some injury concerns in the lead up to the GF as well with the likes of Ware, Brenton, Hetherington, Allen, Boucher etc all ruled out for the big day.
Great day indeed.

Another game against EF that has stuck in my mind was in the same year when we celebrated our 50th anniversary at Bassendean early in the season, it was a cliffhanger and we got up to win by less than a kick with EF coming hard at the end. I can still remember seeing our inaugural Captain/Coach Judda Bee being driven around the ground in the Buccaneer Pools sponsored VW parade before the game or half time.

The next year at EF Oval in a year EF were taking all before them we managed to win a game down there in the pouring rain in a day Big Ron was celebrating his 300th game, we seemed to always lift when playing against a team with a player in a big milestone match eg- in 1983 both Stephen Michael (SF) & Les Fong (WP) 200th games.

BH I rolled out the old video last night and watched the first quarter of the 1984 GF. It was like therapy, just irresistible footy, very little the Sharks could do about it. They ended up with 10 - 7 in that quarter but some of those 7 points were reasonably straightforward shots so it could have easily been 14 - 3 at quarter time which really indicates the quality of the Swans team in that term, Don Holmes kicked 4, Brent Hutton led Foreman a merry dance. Kimberley, Shine, Ahmat, Johns, Richardson, Ken Marshall even got in on the act. East Freo were over physical at the start of the game. From memory it threw Swans in the 2nd Semi final but this approach fell flat on its face in the game that mattered. Kevin Taylor was completely distracted by Steve Richardsons tagging tactics and before they knew it they were 10 goals down.

Credit to the Sharks though that after that train wreck of a first quarter, they managed to pick themselves up, keep fighting and amazingly draw to within 1 point of Swans at one stage in the 3rd quarter. I reckon that gave EF the momentum and self belief to go one better in 1985.

You are not wrong Mike we could easily have been 14.3 or 15.2 if we hadnt have missed a few easyish one's but having said that we did kick a couple of crackers as well.
I can vividly remember it was like a dream watching that 1st qtr 17 scoring shots to 3 can you believe....avalanche after avalanche of attacking forays after being given a brutal touch up in the 2nd Semi by EF, then the 2nd qtr and early into the 3rd qtr it was starting to turn into a nightmare before we regained our composure and kicked away to a 36 point win.
We were sitting at the 3 tier stand end were all the action was taking place in that 1st half too, it was a great era to be a Swans supporter.
