It is interesting to look back on with nearly 40 years hindsight now AR.
There was some real stalwarts and interesting names coaching in the Reserves in those days including as you pointed out Mick Malone (S), Gary Gibellini (EF), Kevin Clune (SD), Chubby Stiles (P), Syd Dufall (SF), Clinton Farmer (WP) and the current Geelong CEO of 21 years Brian Cook (EP).

Peter Metropolis coached your Reserves for a bit as well AR, he may have even coached a League game after Burton got the chop and before Armstrong officially took charge in 80?

Yep, PM did the reserves in 1980-1981; as you know from your reading, the poor bugger had to do both league and reserves for one week before they got KA in to take over. Did you like the article in Westside Football at the time?

I mentioned Olsen's nine in a half, but yes, Ugle's 12 before half time had to be seen to believed. And he was injured at the time...

Was against the Estuary Crabs in 97 from memory SD & SH?
Some other Swans boys a touch unlucky not to join that list were-
Brent Hutton- 11.4 vs CL in 1984
Kevin Caton- 10.6 vs EP in 1987
Troy Ugle- 10.4 & 12.2 vs PT in 1997
Ashley Hansen- 11.4 vs PT in 2012

Clive Waterhouse- 9.7 vs SF in 1996

So this weekend it would have been
Subi v East Perth
Peel v East Freo
Claremont v Swans
West Perth v Perth

Memories folks? From Swans point of view can't go past the 4 grand final wins, 2010 would be a close winner given that it was so unexpected but they were all special. As for home and away games I recall a draw at Bassendean in 2010 and a wonderful game in round 21 1981 at Claremont which we actually lost but both teams scored over 20 goals. I will never forget the wizardy of the Krackouer Brothers on that day.

2018 season horrendous for EFFC. led by Georgie Hampson (38 touches and 13 tackles) still managed to beat Peel (with how many AFL listed players?) holding them to 4 goals.

Yeah those games in 1981 between SD vs CL were very memorable Mike despite being on the losing end, some massive crowds, big scores, electric footy.
Was it the next year in 1982 Steve Malaxos was given a goal (when clearly a point) at Basso that CL ended up winning by a couple of points? I do remember the goal umpire being given some optical advice amongst others on his way from the ground.
A game in 1984 at Subiaco Oval (not the Prelim Final) was also memorable watching Brent Hutton put on an aerial masterclass on his way to kicking 11.4.
There was a game late in 1990 at Claremont Oval that we ended winning late in the game that probably gave us the confidence to knock them off in the GF a few weeks later.
Round 1 the next year at Basso was another clinker where Dale Kickett got reported for head butting Shane Atherton (possibly on debut) SD got up by a kick and CL I dont think lost another game that whole year?
The 2010 draw at Basso was a classic game that was a virtual preview of the GF later that season.
And last but not least a game at Claremont Oval in 1996 where we kept the Tigers to a solitary goal on a very wet winters day, Dwayne Griffin was superb in those conditions and had a few Tigers looking sideways and backwards that day!

Yes, where do we start? The 1996 game mentioned by BH above was incredible for the conditions experienced by both teams. For some reason CL when kicking to the railway end decided the scoreboard side as the best option...with the football after kicked usually finishing up over the scoreboard and in the old council depot...

I need to get the old VCR videos converted to .mp4. The last three minutes of the last round 1990 game with the late Wally Foreman's yell over the microphone of 'Swans....WILL WIN!!!' after Grasso kicked his four to give Swans the lead with seconds to go still gives me tingles after all these years. Menegola and Bell were brilliant that day.

Both were great games SH.
Funnily enough when viewing back our GF's vs Claremont over the years you notice they were all commentated by Claremont supporters- John Rogers in the 2 x 1980s, Wally Foreman in 1990 plus Glen Mitchell & Todd Ridley in 2010! B)
