I'm not sure how they're all getting in Frothy coz only people coming from Tassie and Queensland can enter WA without quarantining.

I had a tripped planned for Cairns next year, decided to cancel it for now, As McClown wont rule out Quarantine on return next year should a out break happen, and we are not at his dream 90% target.

The same applies for folks coming here from other states, why would they book a trip here with the risk of being locked up for two weeks on arrival at the drop of a hat. As you say $185 Mill is pointless until he can give certainty, its now 2 or 3 weeks before Xmas and we don't even have an "opening" date. Hopeless.

I do accept that a 90% vaccination rate for the whole of WA is fanciful at best but surely for the bulk of the population it is still achievable. Seems to me that the efforts made to vaccinate the remote communities has worked in some but not others, there are other influences at work there.

The February date is welcomed but is fraught with all manner of issues, hospitals, the new variant, folk not following the 'rules' or expectations and others that are yet to manifest themselves.

The UK that shinning light lots of folk look towards a beacon of excellence is once again in lockdown, my son has to work from home once again, for how long who knows. Germany, Holland, Denmark and others places are all shutting down with the usual reactions.

NSW has opened up to now once again being at 1K cases with Omicron being one the issues.

I am not sure what the answer is but having the borders shut is no longer an option. Masks, the tag code, being careful with gatherings are all or seem to be all good options

WA's  1st does is near or at 90% which would indicate we will get to 90% double if all those get the second vax. I'll make sure i get the booster asap which allowing 5 months will be just before the border opens which I'm quite happy with. inevitably we'll be back in masks out in public but if that along with being double vaxed is all I need to watch the footy, I'll take that.

On NSW, their premier is switching the discussion away from case numbers to hospitalisation numbers which is the right way to go with borders opening imho. He said only 24 are in ICU across the state which given the infection numbers is pretty good, dont know the current hospital numbers in coVIC but last I heard they were around 300+.

While there is panic going on in Australia and in Europe, South African health experts have a different view and are surprised at the extreme measures being taken around the world over Omicron.

They are arguing against quarantine and testing and contact tracing as a waste of time and they count the cost of all these measures. Africa is often seen as third world but maybe they are ahead of the game in South Africa than we are?

I guess some countries are being cautious until more is known about the variant whilst others like NSW are taking it head on. Its a bit of a concern that hospitalisations and those needing ICU beds are on the climb in NSW but it's still very early.

DD given southern africa's ability to manage HIV, Ebola etc and there efforts with covid I would rather err on the side of extreme caution

Numbers are not rising as fast as the modelling suggested in Nsw.But still of consern the numbers admitted to hospital..And the Ama's claim that the true affects of Omicron are not yet known. As the South African population is a lot younger on average than Australia.Even Delta has only killed a handful of people under the age of 30.
Today 3765
Hospitalized 300
ICU 44 with Ventilators.
