Two questions for McGoo....1. why did he wait 2 years to pump extra money into the health system in advance of Covid getting into WA and 2. where are all the extra Drs and nurses coming from? They've tried to recruit health professionals from the UK and that failed as they're all required in their home countries...so what's the plan to attract extra health staff?

BC All our suspicions were confirmed last night, it was a no brainer.

Health admitted it was worried it couldn t cope with a outbreak.

McClown admitted more needed to be spent, and has committed to do that (late).

And will be building transportables as covid wards.

don't think there was any other option but to gear up now before it opens up - it'll be welcomed regardless of Covid for sure
have an inkling professionals from the ES will be targeted if available

You can bet your arse on it this new virus strain will make it's way here soon out of hotel quarantine and it's already spread into Europe. I posted here ages ago there was a new strain out of I thought South Africa but just Googled it , it was out of South America. It was called the Lambda strain. Just when we thought it was safe to go back into the water, Jaws returns.

McClown will be walking around with a stiffy based on this news. It's a chance for him to shut everything down and show what a "strong" leader he is. It's also an opportunity to turn the polls around which have been heading south for a few weeks now.

They’ve banned travel into Australia from about half a dozen African countries but they need to ban travel to those countries as well. Not like the fiasco before when thousands were granted special exemption to fly to India for weddings and anniversaries then bringing the Delta variant home with them.

The problem is we are relying on politicians to make intelligent decisions. That’s a foolish expectation.

Exactly DD. Sadly after reading the news this morning, the politicians have not learnt many lessons from last year or this year!

Listening to ABC news this morning the the Aust chief medical officer advised that early medical advice on the new variant is that it is no more virulent than Delta, with similar health and transmission impacts and no evidence that the vax will be any less effective than it is for Delta, but ... it's very early days and banning or quarantining arrivals from these hotspots is essential until more info is available.
