Opinions are like arse holes, everyone has one,If it wasnt for Mcgowans hard stance on keeping our borders closed, could we have a 1000 new cases per day and deaths as well like 2 states i can think of.Good premier in my opinion,if covid comes here,as you say is inevitable, what will happen to all the business's that will close down, another free handout from the nice federal gov we have.Ill travel around WA,fark the rest.

Oh dear...another example of the blind faithful intent on kissing McGoo's ring if you get my drift. The only reason we have borders closed to all but the Pope himself is because our stressed health system wouldn't be able to cope with an outbreak. It's not about keeping West Australians safe at all...it's about political survival for McGoo if we were swamped with Covid cases and people started dying in the streets. The buck would finally stop with him if that were the case which would highlight this inept government and how badly they've performed in getting our hospitals ready for the inevitable. They've had almost 2 years to prepare the health system and we still see record ramping each month, elective surgeries cancelled, hospital code yellows, health professionals stressed to a point of breaking and so on. WA can't afford an outbreak because it would result in carnage thanks to inaction by McGoo and Cooked. They've bought time so far by shutting borders at the merest sniff of Covid but the day is fast approaching when that won't be good enough and they'll be found out.

Good on you Mark Mcgowan for keeping WA safe and still running  throughout this covid stuff, unlike most other basket case states in Australia.
Mate, there isnt a sinlge state bar maybe Victoria that is "swamped" with cases, why is it that everyone else is opening up except us.

The keeping us safe blah blah blah - That line just just doesnt  wash anymore,

Fair dinkum mate talking about arseholes, you've got your head up your own.

Yep. As of next Monday if you're fully vaccinated and live in NSW, Vic, ACT you can fly out to 10 countries including SAF, Italy, Greece, Germany, USA and UK and return home without quarantining and then Singapore as of 8 November. If I want to do it from WA I have to go into 14 day hotel quarantine at my own expense. I need to travel to various countries in the Middle East, Europe and SE Asia for work but currently it's just not worth it. To quote a famous line..."well McGoo...you've done it again..."
BC - I think you still require 1 week at home quarantine from those states, plus testing before and after.

But yeah miles ahead of us.

Its not just the hopeless travel situation , its the prospect of more restrictions even for those that have does the right thing vax wise.

as for our nationally embarrasing vax rates, I got a real chill last night when SBS was discussing how low WA Aboriginal Vaccincation rates were, based on that we could be facing restrictions for years.

Yes he did a good job in the beginning, I think we could all agree.
However it's all currently starting to look silly. There has been plenty of time for implementing a forward moving plan. Instead sitting on their hands is like we are all in no man's land.

We're in the same boat wag along with most others on here in that we we're full of praise how it was handled in the beginning when the full impact of Covid was unknown and McGoo did a terrific job shutting the place down. Now his stance has become a national joke and we're about 6 months behind every other state and counting.

there in truth are four states with heavy borders - SA , TAS , NT & WA and funnily enough they are the lowest case rated - but I believe pressure will be brought to bear very soon and we'll see easings sure enough
Personally I'm pretty relieved to have both shots done now and I do urge everyone out there to just get it done , we had worse shots during our childhoods and the old smallpox jab if you went overseas (and that bastard shot leaves behind scars and the horrible pustule beforehand)
So the old excuses are just that , we had worse shots when we were kids

South Australia braces for potential virus surge with Covid Care Centres to keep cases out of hospital
Emily Cosenza

South Australia is preparing for Covid-19 cases once its borders reopen in less than four weeks by creating Covid Care Centres where infected people can get medical attention and avoid hospitalisation.

Premier Steven Marshall announced on Thursday the state would be the first in the nation to establish the dedicated centres that would give positive patients specialist services if required.

He said about 85 per cent of people who caught the virus would be cared for in their own home and use the home quarantine app that had daily symptom checks.

If they required further medical assistance, a rapid response care team — led by nurses — would be able to refer them directly to a hospital or Covid Care Centre to be treated.

The first centre will be established at the Royal Adelaide Hospital next to the emergency department, estimated to cost about $5.5m.

Further announcements will be made in coming weeks about others popping up across the state.

Mr Marshall said the investment was included in the state’s $123m package aimed to prepare its healthcare system before the borders open.

“We announced our road map to lifting those border restrictions … now we're rolling out all the necessary steps to make sure we are Covid-ready in South Australia,” he said.

SA Health deputy chief public health officer Emily Kirkpatrick said lessons learnt from NSW and Victoria showed the majority of Covid positive patients could be managed at home with appropriate supports.

But she said the centres would allow for newer treatments to be delivered, like IV antibody infusion treatments, chest X-rays and other forms of intervention, which would reduce the likelihood of patients being admitted to hospital or an intensive care unit.

“Our initial modelling suggests we would have a capacity of around 50 patients a day across the state … (but) we are not expecting huge numbers at the beginning,” Dr Kirkpatrick said.

“We are seeing this as an opportunity for people to remain in their homes and receive appropriate care with those escalation pathways so people go to the most appropriate place.”

It was announced earlier this week that SA will open its borders to fully vaccinated travellers from November 23, once 80 per cent of its eligible population is fully vaccinated.

Restrictions are set to ease further once 90 per cent is double jabbed.

Victoria:84,942 cases since covid started,1090 deaths.
NSW:74634 cases,562 deaths.
Wa:1112 cases,9 deaths
Seems Vic and Nsw hospitals aren't coping to well.
Im sure you will all be happy when you can fly around the world, bring back a new strain of covid and infect everyone around you.
Apart from not being able to spend your coin on travelling over seas or interstate, what other restrictions do you have?,you can move around WA freely,go shopping, have bbqs etc.etc etc
Mcgowan has been in power for 5 years, did we have premiers before him?did they build new hospitals?or just build stuff to have a plaque with thier name on.
Fark all political parties i reckon, but mark mcgowan has at least shown some nuts by doing things for the best for western australians, which to me has worked as shown by the covid figures.
Each to their own opinion, mine wont change.
