Swan42: yep, you can't tell them though. If we can count the decision to join the VFL as the original sin of WA football, its twin was the AFL clubs turning thier backs on the agreement to distribute their players back to their original clubs.

West Coast are the only AFL team to win a flag since 1999 without having a stand alone reserves team or aligned club in their respective state league.

Port Adelaide 2004?
Hardly surprising considering most of the AFL teams bar the WA (*99-02-13-)/SA teams have had an alignment side since then!

We have to deal with reality here boys, the facts are that the 2 AFL teams are in the WAFL to stay in either aligned or stand along form, I don't like it and it would be great if they did both bugger off but it just wont happen. So we then need to look around and see if there is a model that's working, we only need to look over the fence to SA to see they are making a go of their format with Port aligned with the Port maggies and the Crows with a strand alone team. In WA Freo can stay with Peel coz nobody gives a rats about Peel and WC can have a standalone.
There is no other realistic alternative. The format suggested with a league and cup comp is a nice idea but requires more management infrastructure and a heap of money to support it for prizes etc, where will that money come from, not the AFL or the 2 local clubs, they don't have to so they wont, that's reality.
10 teams, no bye and with a bit of thought in the fixturing we can still have 20 games. Use a SANFL style system it's the KISS solution.

Channel 7 only wants 18 weeks of footy.

As I see it there are three possibilities:

(i) extra teams in the WAFL - WAFL have the right to veto this
(ii) host club alignment - if no WAFL agrees to it, there is no host club alignment
(iii) return to the pre-host club alignment - WELL DONE.

give them a team so 8 other teams can go out on a rotational basis in a weekly effort to destroy them. I know for sure I'll be barracking for whoever they're playing against as a neutral. They won't take over the comp becuz they are too elitist to worry about reserves glory. They'd rather destroy it than win it!!!

Hardly surprising then that the WA AFL clubs want follow a model that the rest of the competition uses and seems the most successful!

It is working so well both clubs have gone backwards, one of them even recruits 2 x Victorian 35yos as it has no faith in their own developed young draftees whilst completely ignoring local young talent to draft in in the process but their respective Reserves EP & PT are winning so they can hang their hat on that despite destroying the fabric of the WAFL competition in the meantime for their own self interest....maybe that other system of distribution around the League wasnt so bad after all at least they had some success under it!

Quite the opposite: 18 - 2 = 16. 15 FAILURES with a host club alignment. I would have thought that would be a pretty poor success rate.

Corollary to the host club alignment and the all-pervasive Victorian Parasite League:

Tassie footy DESTROYED

VFL(VFA) DESTROYED

WAFL Currently in the process of being DESTROYED

SANFL Final target of the VPL to be DESTROYED.
