Sponsors look at the return for their sponsor dollar when choosing competitions or clubs to support.

What does the WAFL have to offer sponsors except falling crowd numbers and 1 game a week on TV with a small viewing audience?

South and the Fremantle City Council would pretty much have sold everything they had in order to facilitate the AFL namesake at Fremantle Oval
Some clubs have attempted to take some initiative but in our case we got shafted

The Peel vote was a bloody low point for mine and the clubs 100% had the power to stop it there and then, some of the clubs have done just as much damage as the WAFC tbh.

Whilst individual clubs have supported or not supported different issues as they've arisen over the last 30 years. Enough clubs have agreed with the WAFC on each issue that has seen the WAFL competition find itself in its current position. As much as the rhetoric from the Council of Presidents says that they are not in agreement with the direction that the competition has taken, when required to hold fast, enough clubs have broken ranks to allow these changes to occur. The host club agreement is the perfect example. When it was put forward again the clubs agreed, on the proviso that they received more money as compensation. FFS they had the chance to say no but instead said yes for more cash! But it's the AFL and WAFCs fault.

Don't get me wrong the clubs should receive some funds via the WAFC but whilst they are happy to sell their souls for more and more money the WAFL competition will always be farked!

Someone asked how to fix it?
Reduce the dependency on WAFC funding
Reduce the salary cap
Tighten the points cap
Use cost effective social media to promote the competition
Reduce the gate entry fee
Clubs act in the best interests of the competition and say no the WAFC and not just ask for more money

TT who sets the gate entry fee?

The clubs have said no to the proposed changes to the colts' competition? Does that mean it won't happen?

What are you going to reduce the salary cap to?

Presume the WAFC set the gate fee but I'm sure if all the clubs asked for it to be reduced the WAFC wouldn't have an issue with it. Clubs have previously been allowed to do so for one off matches.

The colts will probably be removed from the clubs despite the clubs not supporting it. The WAFC will probably use the clubs dependency on the WAFC funding to ensure they get their way. History suggests the clubs will ask for more money as compensation.

Reduce the salary cap by $100k per club. Non-aligned clubs at $185k and aligned/stand alone clubs at $85k.

Points system needs to be tightened up based solely on the 22 league players selected each week not the senior squad. A similar points system also needs to be rolled out through the Ammos and WACFL's so that the best talent isn't poached out of the WAFL by clubs in these competitions offering competitive cash.

Yep this should of been on the table years ago, until the WAFL gets a chance to stand alone and wind up the WAFC link with the AFL Franchises nothing will change.

You should ask Channel 7 that question, with all the Extortion dough we pay them to even bother.

Don't forget the Fantastic 51 000 Thursday Night Blockbuster, which 7 and friends reckoned had the Sponsors counting their Fortune!

What sporting code actually has to pay for TV rather than the get paid to show it, - oh yeah WAFL, that alone should tell you all you need to know. Btw ABC Monday night news didn't even bother putting the final scores up in the 7pm evening sports news.

The bottom line is certain WAFL Clubs and Officials were to piss weak or compromised to stand up for the comp when it came to crunch voted badly and/or broke ranks, make excuses for weakness if you like but that's the fact.

EP sponsorship deals are due in large part to Howson and AHG. Would I spend marketing dollars on the WAFL probably not. If you wanted to have a good relationship with a massive company like AHG then sponsoring EP makes sense. In fairness to Bronte he has tipped money into the WAFL over the years.
