Bazza wrote: Making excuses like saying something was a fait acompli doesn't get the ones that voted pro WAFC off the hook, fact is the clubs had a vote ; if they are as resolute and determined to protect the comp as they sometimes moot, then why collaborate with the WAFC? The Peel vote was a bloody low point for mine and the clubs 100% had the power to stop it there and then, some of the clubs have done just as much damage as the WAFC tbh.

Whilst individual clubs have supported or not supported different issues as they've arisen over the last 30 years. Enough clubs have agreed with the WAFC on each issue that has seen the WAFL competition find itself in its current position. As much as the rhetoric from the Council of Presidents says that they are not in agreement with the direction that the competition has taken, when required to hold fast, enough clubs have broken ranks to allow these changes to occur. The host club agreement is the perfect example. When it was put forward again the clubs agreed, on the proviso that they received more money as compensation. FFS they had the chance to say no but instead said yes for more cash! But it's the AFL and WAFCs fault.

Don't get me wrong the clubs should receive some funds via the WAFC but whilst they are happy to sell their souls for more and more money the WAFL competition will always be farked!

Someone asked how to fix it?
Reduce the dependency on WAFC funding
Reduce the salary cap
Tighten the points cap
Use cost effective social media to promote the competition
Reduce the gate entry fee
Clubs act in the best interests of the competition and say no the WAFC and not just ask for more money

Its the clubs that have voted with the WAFC and those that have broken ranks that have done the damage, God knows what possessed any club president, or board to vote yes for Peel, yet it happened enough times to get them in, and then there is the alignment shambles, one minute everyone is talking industrial action - the next clubs are sneaking in the WAFC back do looking for an offer on the quiet, and the whole thing falls in a heap. you could not make this crap up.

you must be pretty naive Bazza if you think that money and power doesnt influence decisions in this world.

there are major conflicts of interest with certain presidents in the wafl, members of the wafc and then the 2 AFL clubs.

What on earth made you come up with that post?

Are you saying some WAFL Clubs were bribed to conform? Are you saying they sell out the comp so easily and cheaply?

Who elects the Presidents?

$$$ Bazza clubs need the $5 million or whatever a year from the the WAFC to keep the doors open. Here are my suggestions influenced by many years of listening to the thoughts of fellow WAFL lovers on this forum.
1. AFL players barred from the WAFL
2. Salary cap $50,000
3. Peel pissed off to PFL
4. Points cap revision. Any out of zone player 10 points
6. Profit sharing on all gate takings and league sponsorship.
7. $10 entry Adults $20 grand final
8. Transfer fees $1000 per player

as the old saying goes there is more politics in sport than politics..

you live under a rock ?

Larry - what company would sponsor a 4th tier comp as the afl reserves would be 2nd tier and the magical colts comp would get more exposure than the WAFL..
really your idea would mean an amalgamation with the ammos..bizarre..

Yeah exactly so until the WAFL gets financial independence , nothing will change, clubs will keep rolling over.

LB -- some good ideas; I would add selling the AFL licences to the equation. The monies could be put in a WAFL fund to help sustain the competition over time.

Ark good idea but my cynical view is the WAFL will get a crumb or two at best.
