When the VFL was going broke in the 80's it was because of a few clubs enjoying great success at the expense of the have nots and the VFL had to bail these clubs out or they were going to die and ultimately did, Fitzroy died and now pretend they are the Brisbane Lions and South Melbourne went to Sydney.

The WAFL would be similarly on it's knees if it wasn't propped up by the two AFL clubs. The WAFL is effectively dead due to Subiaco's dominance and only a few of the same clubs able to challenge them over the past 15 years.

Freezin wrote: DD......What is the difference between Trops moving on from EF because he wants to play WAFL footy .....to Trops moving on because he wants to play WAFL finals footy?.....yep he has proved he can play in the WAFL at Perth......now he may want to prove he can deliver on a finals stage....Perth and their fans were more than happy to give him that chance to play regular WAFL and now Subi and their fans perhaps will be more than happy to give him his chance of playing finals...that is footy..

...and yeah Perth have improved and may be a chance to play finals soon and Trops should stay loyal......but hey why didnt Tropiano stick it out at EF because the likes of Dalziell and McGough soon retired after he left?....didnt hear anyone at Perth say "Trops be patient and stay loyal at EF mate...your chance will come".......ones footy career aint a long one remember.....look at Ross Young.....his loyalty to Perth won him a Sandover but not one single finals appearance.....pretty sure players play for team rewards not individual rewards?

Hopefully what Peel is doing now may be a short term good thing......it might open eyes fast and result in the AFL aligned game quota being pushed from a measly 5 to say 10 -12 minimum to play finals....true the WAFL clubs need the AFL money to survive.....just got to tweak it so the likes of Peel or EP dont dominate and keep the playing field even....

......as for Subi and their riches?.....sheet if EF were in their possie, as an EF fan I would be complimenting my off field boys for doing their jobs in terms of securing financial security......and enjoying winning those flags......as every other fan would be thinking.......if not they are farking lying!

"look at Ross Young.....his loyalty to Perth won him a Sandover but not one single finals appearance.....pretty sure players play for team rewards not individual rewards?". Freeze, there lies my point at the top of this thread, with the alignment and the 3rd AFL club in $ubi, players across the competition are limited to Finals success![/b

Absolutely spot on Leedy. Freezin keeps on saying can't hold these players back from enjoying a bit of finals success. The only reason they don't get a chance to taste it at Perth is because of the disparity in the competition in the first place and this is why the WAFL has become a joke, as Leedy said in the heading, a massive piss take!!

That's crap SF, WP, Claremont, SD have all won premierships Iit has not been all Subi since they had the cash from Subi Oval..to say Perths failure is all Subis fault is ludicrous.

Never said it was all Subi's fault. Read my response above to Freezin.

Why limit it to the last 12 years, Subi have had rivers of gold from Subi oval sinmce the Eagles started in 1987. so since the advent of the Eagles Claremont have won 7 and Subi 7 after that's its pretty even WP 4 EF and SF 3 EP 3 SD 2 , you could argue Claremont have dominated as well.

Periods of domination are not unknown in WAFL history without Subis cash. SF won 6 out of 8 1947 to 1954 EP won 7 out of 9 1919-1927 ..

And how do you explain Subis premiership drought from 1988 to 2004?

Firstly the a lot more than FFC and SMFC were broke in the 80's ..Footscray, NMFC , Melbourne even Collingwood and Hawthorn had problems,

The WAFL is not dead due to Subi's dominance, its dead because most people follow AFL now.

Subi's financial upswing started back in 1985 when the then Western Underwriters sponsored the club for $100k to make the GF then $200k the flowing year for winning the flag. I can't be stuffed doing an NPV calculation but think those numbers would equate to several millions in today's money.

And only because less people care about WAFL these days are Subiaco getting away with it.
