Can I just say that I think all WAFL clubs are just looking to survive. Gone are the good old days that you would get 6-7000 or more at a game. I dont like the alignment and would much prefer the Eagles to have their own team with Fremantle taking over Peel. The Thunders zone would then get divided amongst the original eight clubs with the worst performing clubs over the last 20 years (yes I know this is Perth) getting a larger portion of the zone while the best performing club which probably is Subiaco getting the the smallest portion compared to the other clubs.

The AFL is the main competition now and is what kids associate better with. I know we are all passionate WAFL people and some remember the glory days better than others but those days are long gone as much as it pains me to admit it. Clubs work hard to make the smallest of profits each year and keep their heads above water for another 12 months.

The fact is it's not really a game anymore its a business. Players will do what is best for themselves and their careers just like clubs will do what is best for their future. Loyalty in football for me went out a long time ago and if Tropiano does decide to leave he has served us well in his 2.5 years. It will then be up to Perth to get a deal that suits them and puts them in a better position to win more games next year.

DD......What is the difference between Trops moving on from EF because he wants to play WAFL footy .....to Trops moving on because he wants to play WAFL finals footy?.....yep he has proved he can play in the WAFL at Perth......now he may want to prove he can deliver on a finals stage....Perth and their fans were more than happy to give him that chance to play regular WAFL and now Subi and their fans perhaps will be more than happy to give him his chance of playing finals...that is footy..

...and yeah Perth have improved and may be a chance to play finals soon and Trops should stay loyal......but hey why didnt Tropiano stick it out at EF because the likes of Dalziell and McGough soon retired after he left?....didnt hear anyone at Perth say "Trops be patient and stay loyal at EF mate...your chance will come".......ones footy career aint a long one remember.....look at Ross Young.....his loyalty to Perth won him a Sandover but not one single finals appearance.....pretty sure players play for team rewards not individual rewards?

Hopefully what Peel is doing now may be a short term good thing......it might open eyes fast and result in the AFL aligned game quota being pushed from a measly 5 to say 10 -12 minimum to play finals....true the WAFL clubs need the AFL money to survive.....just got to tweak it so the likes of Peel or EP dont dominate and keep the playing field even....

......as for Subi and their riches?.....sheet if EF were in their possie, as an EF fan I would be complimenting my off field boys for doing their jobs in terms of securing financial security......and enjoying winning those flags......as every other fan would be thinking.......if not they are farking lying!

the irony of this is that the PFC have money so as Mr AFL has mentioned, match the offer from Scabiaco. Capes only said what I have said in relation to Crowley over on the Lions thread: I would only be interestted if we lose a few over summer. People have got very short memories about Subi's recruitting, as without it, we would not have got within 10 goals of EP in the grand final, if indeed we made the final at all; we only qualified because EF failled to kick straight the week before.

A lot of truth in that, lets be honest of any other club had the financial advantage SFC had none would be giving it up easily.

But this comp is getting mighty boring, I looked around a dull over cast Leederville yesterday and the feeble patchy crowd played on a yellow sand spotted aged suburban ground and then thought if someone had told me 30 yrs ago that WAFL finals would come down to the level of interest this is attracting I would never of believed them,

I remember going to a A Grade Ams game final played at Leederville, as they were back then 30 yrs ago, and Im certain the crowd was bigger.

Just look at the SFFC thread , barely a single post re the game since mine.


If its a Peel v Subi GF I think it could be played at Bruce Lee Oval and still have room left over.

tbh mate the TV would not have made a great deal of difference, what was the crowd at Joondy???

Its not just that anyway , its thinking back to even the late 80s and early 90s when finals were something really special played at Subi would still pull 10 K plus,,what we have now is not even a decent home and away vibe at a final played at suburban ground, just doesn't seem special any more.

I really liked the idea of the finals double headers that were started in 89, at least it gave a decent crowd and atmosphere.

Great post Leedy and good to see many others are now finally seeing what a farce this comp has become over the last few years and will only get worse if something is not done about the 3 clubs concerned ASAP!
