Thought it might be worth doing a spot check from each WAFL clubs last match on the % of local zone talent playing in their League side.
It makes for some interesting reading as follows-

SD- 78%
CL- 78%
EF- 68%
SF- 64%
WP- 59%
$U- 45%
PH- 36%
PL- 36%
EP- 27%

Not surprising to see both SD & CL leading the way again with local zone players even tho both clubs have been decimated by the draft over the last decade and were the 2 leaders in the field last year as well.
As one of the charters of the WAFC is developing & providing a pathway for local zone talent by each WAFL club it makes it astounding some clubs receive the same development grant from the WAFC each season despite not fulfilling the charter.
I would have thought anything under 55% which is only 12 players out of the 22 being local to be unacceptable and not worthy of receiving the development grant some clubs readily but somewhat sheepishly accept each season!

BH, very interesting point and if I could ask a favour?

Can you break those figures down to country and metro for each club?

Can possibly understand Perth building up players from other clubs but cant understand West Perth's figure when they are sitting on the larger junior clubs in metro Perth!

Interesting info, thanks for the stats BH.
A variable mix of top teams and bottom teams with high % of local talent so having locals or imports doesn't seem to have that big an influence on a teams performance. Great stuff, cheers for that BH

64 & 43 is probably a fair outcome for us 'Beas - we had a mandate to utilise local first and top up if required over the past 2-3 seasons

Jimmy Sellar was probably the exception as he accepted the allowance role that is outside the cap

This year Shane Hockey is our exception - Edwards came in as a swap for Rossy

Speaking of local talent, what do Subiaco and Claremont have in common in relation to local products?
