Do any of the following names ring a bell old chap- Armfield, Ellard, Miles, Rance, Naitanui, Notte, Walters, Pearce, Pratt, Garlett, Yarran, Ugle, Banfield, L.Jetta, N.Jetta, Blight? And then straight after the flag win the likes of Twomey, Krakouer, Coniglio, Gault, Newman, Stevens.
Good to see you are still with us anyway Muddy old boy ..have a nice day! :)

Be careful BH, he sounds a bit angry for some reason.........

I thought the fact we lost 22 players to the AFL over that few year period was pretty common knowledge Mike not to mention the retirements of stalwarts like Beros, Griffin, Johnson, Piani, Cornelious, Edmonds et al around the same time factored in ...and yet the $ubi boys are getting their dependence diapers in a knot over us picking up 6 or so recruits to cover those all mentioned when they do that at a minimum each year without any drafted  ...$trange crew that lot! :)

Without any drafted?
Since the inception of the draft Subiaco has had 36 players drafted and Swans 40

Full list
C 64
EF 61
SF 44
SD 40
S 36
WP 36
P 34
EP 27
PT 16

They were drafted from Swans since the inception of the draft which was what you originally stipulated. Anyways I have listed well over 40 players even accounting for Twomey & Krakouer taken out so what was your source ...tomato, barbecue or Worcestershire? :)

Always disputing official stats
Whatever helps you sleep at night.

I will repeat I have listed previously well over 40 SD players taken in the drafts ...so what is your source it surely isn't that hard to answer?

Even allowing for the heavy recruitting, we have not necessarily been a strong presence -- we went nearly twenty years without a premiership between 1987 and 2004; that, is a long time. The latest batch of recruitting has occurred after two poor seasons, including a second last in 2013, and in the face of the alignments at Peel and EP.

AR with all due respect if heading for you 9th flag in the last 30 years, heading for your 15th GF in the last 30 years & heading for your 24th finals series in the last 30 years is not neccessarily being a strong presence than I dont know what is!

Well then how about we all take turns at being premiers so that no one gets upset or feels left out, or better yet not keep score at all like Auskick. That way the precious little sooks at Basso won't get hurt feelings. You guys really need to bring back your Angel Flowers jumper sponsor you had in 2008, some nice pansies for the pansies might cheer them up.

BH -- I hear you. We have had two disastrous years 1996 and 2013; we have had a fortunate era, including all the appearances in the finals, one built largely on recruitting but with some local talent. What would you have preferred them to do remembering that they have had a weak zone? Do you accept that they have had one of the weakest zones over the years? You need to have a balance between good local talent and recruitting as a club, at least from what I have seen of football. The 1987 Claremont side, as you know, seen by many on here as the best of the era, was half recruited from outside, even allowing for the fact that the blue and gold had won the colts flag in 1986. With this combination, I think the Tigers had created the perfect club; but, good on them, at the time they needed to beat Subiaco and EF to win the flag. There is no no doubt in my mind that, SD, once, it has resolved the debt problem, will move more to a mixed strategy relying on players from the zone and imports. You can see the beginnings of this strategy with the recruitment of Crowley, and I am sure there will be other experienced footballers in the future. What do you think?

Just thinking about zones and so on, I can only think of one time period -- early 80s colts sides -- when Subiaco had managed to win the flag on the back of their zone; and, even then, as you know, we recruited a fair bit. The thing is, BH, without the recruitting over the years we would have been a fairly weak side, something which would have had important ramifications for the club off the field as well. Where would they have finished without the recruits? I suspect our record would have been similar to that of EP over the same period, at best. You will find, I think, that other clubs, especially EP and the PFC, have also recruitted heavily over the years; each club, it seems, being aware aware of the absence of a lot of talent coming out of their zones.

I hope you will find this to be a thoughtful response.

Just for Outer according to the honour board up at Basso there have been 75 SD players taken in the drafts since its inception ..so he was only just 35 out!
