Went and watched the boys at Noranda play Coolbinia today in E1. Everybody at the ground knows what happened including the winning team who looked very subdued in their celebrations one has to add but thought I'd lay some free kick stats I took from the game for some post game observation. Here they are ;

Noranda's ump paid 7 free kicks to Coolbinia - 6 to Noranda a fairly balanced day I'd say

Coolbinia's ump paid 18 free kicks to Coolbinia - 1 to Noranda (a clear holding ball decision he couldn't avoid)

5 of these free kicks were paid when he was the non controlling umpire at least 50mtr behind the play - 4 x 50mtr penalties given against Noranda for abuse one a double 50 which gave an easy shot for goal . To top it off the final free kick given was a ruck infringement 25mtr out from goal in the dying seconds when neither ump had paid a free for ruck infringements throughout the entire game. The ensuing shot at goal after the siren gave Coolbinia the win by a single point.
I will not go in to the goal umps decision whether it was a goal or behind as the young kid was just that, a young kid.

I think these numbers say it all...Let it be a warning to all other E1 sides as to what to expect in future weeks.

Word on street is Quinns beat the Prison Team.

If that's the case well done!

Also heard Brentwood and West Coast Cowan forfeited this weekend.

Sad news for E1.

Hopefully these are one offs and they can finish the season.

Happened to see this game - only the second E1 game I have seen for the season.
The game was largely played in the right spirit and I congratulate players from both sides for this. I am sure Noranda were disappointed not to win but again most of their players took it well, shook hands after the game, had a beer etc.

DW these are interesting stats which I assume you took from the very first bounce?
Strange area to focus on, would have thought your coach would have been more interested in how many times you turned the ball over, or which opposition players was winning the centre clearances or something of value. As any good coach knows you focus on the things in your control - not the umpires.

I think the most telling stat is the score 12.3 to 11.8. Noranda boys had their chances, missed easy shots on goal - lost the game. Simple.

PS you forgot to mention that Coolbinia won the clearance from that last ball up, played on and kicked a goal but the umpire called it back and made them take a shot after the siren from 45m out. Never let the facts get in the way of a good story!

Slayed....Coolbinia's umpire was blowing that whistle the moment he threw the ball up...we all know how crafty this bloke is although i will refrain from naming him on this site and do understand that he is also the team's trainer...play was not continuous as all players except the guy who picked the ball up stopped with the whistle so no advantage could or should have been paid.... to say the free kick was paid 45m out from goal clearly shows u r letting ur version get in the way of the facts.... Try 20-25.....having said all this was a good game of footy played by both sides with good spirit....cracking soccer goal kicked by the big forward of Coolbinia in the last qtr and yeah #3 & #7 killed it in the middle, great fight back from Noranda to make a game of it and well done to all players involved as it could have got ugly the way it ended with not only a contentious free kick but a lot of dispute with regards to whether it was a goal or not...at the end of the day I won't be losing sleep over, found it almost humorous in the end as the crafty one notched up another victim....for the record was at game reviewing Norandas ump, not Coolbinias...just found it very interesting at end of day when reviewing the stats...they look ugly don't they?

DW. When you say reviewing, do you mean on behalf of the league?

If yes will he then be asked to no longer umpire?

Yep - because what they show is:

a) How dumb a couple of your players are. If you get pinged 50 metres for disputing decision/arguing with the umpire - stop doing it!

b) Shows Noranda's umpire should have paid more free's to Coolbinia. Apart from last qtr they were second to the ball, playing from behind = give away free kicks.

c) Both goal umpires looked about 12 which is what you expect at E grade games, I am sure both kids did there best.

d) According to you the ruck infringement was 25m out, now you say 20m out, pretty soon it will have been in the goal square.

Out of interest were you the guy who chucked the *hits after the game, went into the change rooms and started kicking doors?

Odd way to revue the performance of your umpire.
As anyone who has ever umpired will tell you the free kick count is irrelevant.
As an umpires coach, you should have been focusing on his positioning, ability to communicate clearly (using whistle/voice and signals), understanding/interpretation of the rules.

Reviewing might be the wrong choice of word here. Heard good things about the young fella (Noranda ump) and might just have been down with thoughts to recruiting him for next year. As for the crafty one (Coolbinia's ump) I think he's happy with his lot. Nothing on behalf of waafl to answer your question.
