swan 42: he has a lot of work to do on many fronts. On the jobs front, he can simply fine the companies until they return, not forgetting the tariff question. The thing about NAFTA which I resent the Clintons and the Republicans for, Swan, is that it has actually destroyed some of the best unionised and paying jobs in the US

Further, and this worrying for all, in relation to the abrogation of treaties, the Constitution is unclear about where the power rests. Is it simply with the President, or must the President consult the Senate? In the nineteenth century, Presidents were made to get the agreement of the Senate -- abrogation of the treaty with France, and the tearring up of the treaty with Britain concerning joint sovereignty over the Oregon Territory. Unhappily, in more recent times, Presidents have actted much more unilaterally putting treaties, such as NAFTA and NATO under threat. If he is forced to work with the Senate we should be alright on NATO, it would not pass the chambre.

The American cabinet system has always been a complete undemocratic shamblles, he could put anybody up before the Senate as a Minister.

Only in America could this happen.

I'm still waiting to see if he's going to throw Hillary in gaol.

My ignorance is showing here. If she has done something illegal, why does Trump have to initiate the investigation? Why doesn't the law per se take action against a suspected criminal?

58Shark, it's Donald Trump so it's not supposed to make any sense, apparently he will put people in jail just cos he says so.
And he is also going to make Mexico pay to build a wall between the USA and Mexico.
Nothing he said as a policy made any sense but he still got elected but it is America, great place to visit but they are a strange mob.
Good news he also wants to remove gun free zones at schools, he's a genius for sure

It's all to be seen. He won't be as bad as the hack media say. If he steps out of line, think JFK.

A café somewhere today was advertising a "Trump Sandwich" on a blackboard menu.

"White Bread, full of baloney, Russian dressing and a small pickle"

Grassy: House: R -- 238 seats Dem --- 193 seats
Senate R -- 52 seats Dem --- 48 seats

In short the Clintons and Obama have overseen a disaster. This is the first time in 100 years that the Republican party has swept all of Congress and the Presidency. That how they will be rememberred too.

The House of Reps districts are drawn up not by an independent body as in Australia but by the individual state legislatures.

I will point out again that I believe that H Clinton was leadingg in the popular vote. That is, more people voted for H Clinton than D Trump.

Just google some of the "idiots" such as Sarah Palin that are being considered as part of the Trump government. That and nepotism is apparenty alive and well. To have D Trump as President-elect is to hold your country up for ridicule. Compare and contrast Trudeau and Trump.
