Swan 42: unfortunately the popular vote matters little because Trump has the electoral college, which is why I stressed that he had a chance to win if you looked at the state by state polls.

The system dates back to 1787, and I promise you without it, the US would not have exited today. After their treason against the Crown, and the Treaty of Paris with Britain in 1783, it took six years of bitching for the smaller states to agree to the Constitution.

No smaller state will agree to reform of the electoral college today.

By the end of his term Ronnie had trouble remembering anything at all , Alzheimer's was setting in, he conveniently or legitimately pleaded ignorance to the Iran Contra scandal. Soon after leaving he was in a care home.

Yeah I read about the photo tradition broken, absolutely piss poor on the part of Obama, but hardly surprising I guess - he broke convention and publicly campaigned for Clinton as a sitting Prez, something not normally done.

Pardon her for what GTR? Despite the email scandal she's been investigated twice by the FBI and not found to be guilty of any serious misconduct as far as I know. If Trump has simply decided it is not in his or the countries best interest to try to prosecute her then that IMO is very very wise.

In fact I saw in a little interview grab that he praised the Clinton's as very talented people. I think Trump is already showing he's a very smart operator and not the lunatic most made out him to be or feared he might be.

it's a shame they couldn't convince Mitt Romney to nominate for the primaries...I reckon he would have beaten Trump for the Republican nomination and been a shoe in for President

I'm not so sure about that BC, Trump out performed him in all categories vote wise, I doubt he could of galvanised the blue collar vote in the same way Trump did.

There are not many second time rounders when it comes to having a crack at the presidents job, once they lose one election they tend to walk away, Richard Nixon was one that lost and then had another crack and we all know how that ended.

All in all , I think this demonstrates how superior our Westminster Constitutional Monarchy is compared to every republican model I can see, btw have a look south Korea at the moment, then there's Brazil all presidential shambles, then there's France, I was talking to some folk there this year Hollande is detested and riddled with corruption but they say in France people will just let it go as there is no accountability levels like the Westminster system.

maybe Bazza but Romney received more votes in losing to Obama than Trump did in winning this month. I realise voter roll out was down in this election in comparison to 2012 but I think that was more about the candidates than anything. Romney may have stifled Republican in-fighting and presented a more united front than Trump meaning those GOP voters who were disaffected by Trump's campaign and what he presented may have stayed on board.

Interestting debate on Rommeny: I think he would have beaten her as would have Kasich, whom would have been my preferred candidate from the left wing of the party. People had had enough of Obama, falling real incomes and all.

I just heard that the Iran treaty -- which I broadlly support myself -- has not passed the Senate; meaning that, should the mood take Donald after 20 January, he can rip it up; absolute comedy show the Obama regime -- and I use the world regime deliberately.
