Because of what has happened at Lathlain Park Oval in the aftermath of the Eagles moving there, the capacity has been reduced significantly.

60000 at EF v SF ( broadcast live)
3500 at WP v EP

Played during the day on a WA Public Holiday

1000 on a Thursday night, well done WAFC.

I am sure SD would love to play our traditional rival Perth on the WA Day Monday as well but we have not been allowed to of late although I do remember us playing EP in the 1990s at Basso on the day and there was a huge crowd 10,000+.

So 60k at the Freo derby hey Baz? Gee that's impressive mate. Beats the crowd at the Dreamtime game at Optus. Tell him he's dreaming. Lol
had Perth had a half decent team on the park I am confident that crowd would have been doubled. Having said that Perth v Subi has never drawn a big crowd for obvious reasons.

But if both sides were neck and neck at the top of the table I think it would be a different story and draw a decent crowd. What do my Subiaco friends think?

BH you don’t recall an ANZAC day game between P and SD at Bazzo on a Sunday that drew a crowd of about 6 - 7000 around 10 years ago, maybe just over 10 years ago? I always scratch my head why the two clubs haven’t pushed for that since. Perth tends to play EP and Swans play WP on Anzac Day since. I can’t work out why.

Certainly do remember that game DD, I think it was the one above in the link which was on a Friday.
Some top class players from both sides on the park that day and look at the scores, sheesh if only we saw more of that style of footy these days the crowds might flock back to the WAFL
We (SD vs Perth) should definitely be playing on days like Anzac Day & WA Day as it more often than not draws a decent crowd and a good game of footy!

There's a good article in today's West by JT where he says the WA Day weekend should become the WAFL weekend.  It could almost become a WAFL rivalry round between the traditional clubs with Perth v SD and Subi v Claremont on the Saturday and/or Sunday and EF v SF and WP v EP on the Monday holiday. As for Peel and WCER...who cares??  Maybe they could play each other as well as an AFL reserves Derby.

Yes BC, but there was also a tweet from Basil Zempilas calling for the WCE and Dockers to play a WA dreamtime Derby on WA Day, I fired back saying crap idea, and leave WAFLs day alone, many other did as well.

Have you not been to Lathlain Park Oval since the Eagles started their development to notice that the size of the ground has been reduced, the scoreboard has gone, the outer bank has gone, the covered area immediately to the right of the grandstand has gone, the carpark has gone, the capacity of the ground has been reduced dramatically?
