I dont mind the idea of Thursday Night Football for the WAFL, we could make it our own and a night free from all of the overload of vfl on the box.
42 I am sure all teams already train on the Thursday night and still go to work on the Friday?
It may even encourage WAFL players to keep playing on knowing they would get their weekends free whilst playing on a school night!
I presume you are not suggesting that a Thursday night training session is the equivalent of playing a WAFL league match?

I gotta say I'm really looking forward to this one against a Perth team which is undermanned through injury but still having a red hot crack.  We should go in unchanged although I did note Kitch was icing up his hammy late in the game on Saturday.  If he misses then Ben Golding or Kaidyn Fullgrabe should get a chance based on recent form in the two's.  It'll also be interesting to see how the Thursday night experiment is received by the footy public.  I think it's worth a try as it looks like it'll be a nice evening weather wise with great lighting so should provide a terrific contest.  Subi by 3 goals in a tight one.
How do you reckon the players will pull up especially the ones who are tradies and have to put in a hard, physical day's work on the Friday?

To preempt a possible response I realise it is a Perth home game and I understand they may be the ones who made the decision.    It is difficult to see what benefits there are to play WAFL matches at night let alone on a Thursday evening at night.
Shouldn't worry the Subi boys the're used to it.
They train harder than anyone else.
It's not the size of the dog in the fight. It's the size of the fight in the dog.

Of course not but the players are well attuned to turning up to work the next day after a strong physical workout, some may even take the day off work god forbid!
You may not like the Thursday night games 42 but many others that attend WAFL games regularly these days might and it could open up a brand new audience too!

Good game, just a shame its on a Thursday night, especially given they had a whole long weekend to use, Sunday night would of been better.

I actually agree with Bazza on this occasion. Sunday night would have been a good opportunity on the long weekend.

Was there a bigger crowd at Lathlain Park Oval this year for our game against Perth at night than you would get normally for a day?

Would you care to articulate the metrics that would justify Thursday night WAFL games?

Can’t wait for this game. Night footy at Lathlain is awesome. The Pig Pen will be rocking.

Might be a bit late for some of the $ pensioners but that just means more Yumbos for the rest of us.

Yep, Thursday night footy, I’m all for it. Should play more of it earlier in the season.

42 you havent been too many games of late and wouldnt have noticed first hand the drop off in crowds this season but we need to find a new younger fan base.
Thursday night can offer that with some decent promotion and things like food trucks, craft beer, wine tasting set ups etc....you can bet the Vic Park-Albany Hwy strip would be pumping on a Thursday night and Lathlain is not far away from that to take advantage of.
It doesnt have to be every Thursday but worth a punt especially in the warmer months of the season.

Surely "this season" was superfluous.  So analysing your post: no-one disagrees with your comment that we need to grow our WAFL supporter base.  However, I personally don't think that playing Thursday night games will provide that growth.  The following is not a dig at Perth supporters but an observation of the infrastructure at Lathlain Park Oval.  Apart from the main grandstand what covered seating is there?   Why would 18-30 years without any connection to the WAFL decide that going to watch a game at Lathlain Park Oval would be a good start to an evening out as opposed to going directly to the "Vic Pk Albany Hwy strip"?

Personally, I think it is more likely to have a longer term sustainable growth for the WAFL to follow the example of DW and his son.  Get fathers/mothers and sons/daughters to go to the WAFL and form that habit at a younger age.

42 with all due respect I actually go to WAFL games and not only SD games I might add.
I attended the P vs SF game in the last round last year on a Saturday night at Lathlain Park and it was a fantastic atmosphere with the set up they had there that night in the outer- wine tasting, craft beers, dj pumping out tunes after goals etc and it had me thinking that should be the way of the future to get that coveted 18-30 demographic market attending WAFL games.
It wouldnt be for the old fossils but we cant rely on them forever and we need to find a new younger fan base and that sort of set up incorporating WAFL footy could be the way of the future!
