No doubt we'll go the pommy soccer and yank gridiron way. There'll be enough people in the stands to create an atmosphere, but TV will be the BIG money earner for footy (AFL only). That's where it will head and comps like the WAFL will end up like country footy...cars park on the boundary and toot horns when a goal is kicked. Sad thing is, that we are at a point where the WAFC can turn this around, but we've got a commision of nutless, unimaginative AFL muppets running the show. And yeah, thanks again you 2 WCE and FFC reserve team pieces of @#$%!

Getting younger crowds to the game is the only hope for the future of the WAFL.

I tell you one thing that has astounded me over the past few years as a missed opportunity. I live in the Subi district and when WAFL players come to my kids school to conduct footy clinics (and this happens every year) who do they send? - not league players but colts players. Colts players who invariably lack the social skills or interest in my observation to engage the kids and get them interested in the WAFL.

This is a missed opportunity to get kids interested in going to see the guys who are doing the training actually playing, to recognise their names and to start to cultivate some interest in the competition.

I know, I know most WAFL players work FT, it's all too hard, dog ate my homework blah blah blah. Seriously would it be that difficult to get a couple of players that kids may recognise to turn up once a year.

Our local footy club had an unfortunate experience a couple of seasons back having colts players come down and swear and blabber on about getting on the piss in front of the kids. Raising the standards on engagement between local and WAFL club surely can't be that difficult to get right?

Based on. Your. Experiences , there's no sign of a turn around.

As has been pointed out on this thread already attendances have gone up since 1995.

It's going to have to be repeated over and over again until it get's through.

It's a shame you've thrown in the towel Bazza. Come up with a few ideas mate.

Mate there might of been a few oldies in the members in the 1970's but lets look at the facts, In those days you lined up to get into the ground, to get into a club you had to be a member and was strickly controlled, and once you got in it was packed and that was just the club.

In the outter was where the younger crowd would be and there was always a big younger adult crowd at the beer vans, in freo's case at the hospital end of the ground, not to mention the youngsters and the scream teams ( cheer squads ).

Here's an idea..piss the AFL off...that'll get crowds back.

But no what do they do ..make it worst by bringing in Host Clubs.and then they crap on Foundation Day - the only day the WAFL had a decent crowd.

Foundation Day Derby wont be the same again. now its on Sunday and will compete with AFL,,its success was based on it being a stand alone WA Fixture.

Next year you can bet your house that the Eagles and Dockers will have a game foundation day.

The best idea I can come up with is - try to sign a new member up for you clubs if you can get one new member its a huge help and if not bring along someone new to game at least once a season...you never know they may get hooked and want to come back.

Try to educate your kids in WAFL Heritage, its hard and they think its pretty un cool but try anyway.

West Perth had the highest aggregate attendence of the year for all WAFL Clubs.
Top four of WP,SD,EP would be boost for WAFL, throw in Perth Demons and the WAFL could have a bonanza return

Not all doom and gloom.

I think people are getting a little tired of this extended vfl we have in place of the afl.

I doubt it Mate, when you say plenty you probably mean about 10.

I have seen a few in there over the last couple of seasons and they have grown each year. There's about 15 that come to majority of the home games (6 or more). It's not great but atleast they make an effort to come down and support their team.

I actually like having a drink in most of the WAFL club bars. Looking around at some of the memorabilia and it's also a great place to be when you win a game at home ;) :P

Let's wait until the official figures are released during the week. Approximates are what they say - approximates.
