More good info guys :)
It's amazing really if you start believing buffoons such as Hagdorn, Vlahos et al who constantly talk down the WAFL & spruik how much we needed to embrace having this host club crap on our comp as attendances have been falling for years when if those clowns actually did their due diligence & checked the actual facts crowds have been going up since the disaster of the last host club shambles from 99-02!

Yes!

Now we just need to get back to that 200,000 mark of 2011.

The fixtures are a lot better this year in terms of some separation from Eagles and dockers matches.

But we still need 5 good promotions by each club.

It only takes an extra 144 people per game to reach the 200,000 mark again.

La Hincha wrote: It's interesting. We keep getting told by some sections of the media that the WAFL hasn't been traveling that well. Yet, all clubs have shown a big increase in attendance numbers since the gloomy days of 2002-2004.

To be fair, I averaged out the clubs numbers from 2002-2006 and then did the same for years 2007-2012.

South Fremantle up 26%
East Fremantle up 25.6%
Perth up 25.4%
Subiaco up 22.4%
Swan Districts up 18%
West Perth up 15.8%
Claremont up 11.9%
East Perth up 9.1%
Peel up 8.1%

The media could have highlighted this and put the WAFL in a positive light but chose not to.

You'd be hard pressed to find other competitions/sports in Australia where attendance numbers are going up like this.

Yet another great post LH
Those attendance % increases are great better than I actually thought & without any promotion from the WAFC whatsoever ...imagine if they actually did some promotion of the comp where kids might get an interest eg on tv, internet, FM/AM radio but its easier for them to do just nothing & allow more football funds to WCE & FR staff to go on overseas junkets!!

The two Freo clubs do well in the attendance stakes due to the Derbies(West & East Perth also). Take out those derby figures to their average game totals and they would be struggling big time.

So why is it that a lot of east and south supporters just go to the derbies - yes it can be as they know it'll be a tight game and the rivalry theme and yes it could definately be if it's on a public holiday - That's a no brainer but all those supporters who only go to a couple of games a year when most of the other teams supporters go each week ??? That is what those clubs must tap into - the supporters who only go to a couple of games a year - Can they get them there more often ? My club Subi has stuff - all members and supporters but nearly gets the same crowds ??? And yes the % of Subi suppoerters at the games may be lower but on most games I go to we're not always out-numbered especially against East and South Freo ???

Wk 20 9,613

I don't have any other attendance figures here. I would imagine the 2000 season would have to be one of the worst in regards to attendance figures for the qualifying matches.

I reckon the year Swans, WP, SF, P & dare i say it EP make the finals LH we would easily surpass 200k but having Claremont make the finals each bloody year brings our total down with their non existent supporter base these days ..hopefully having flash new club rooms might drag the chardonnay set around that neck of the woods down to Claremont Oval although they might need a few drop off areas near the members for their chauffeurs to have easy access in & out!! :P

Our supporter base has actually grown in the last 10 years. But winning premierships will do that. God knows we needed to grow the base. It could have been argued that 10-15 years ago we had the smallest supporter group. Peel and Claremont can take that honour from us now thankfully and probably Perth also.

Although it will be interesting to see if Perth's supporters come back if and when they make a premiership charge.

South's numbers are good without Derbies. Not so East Fremantle. The Sharks need to come up with some bigtime promotions.

Yeah Claremont need to act pretty quickly and tap into the Western suburbs youth.

It's not as though they don't have a big enough zone to utilise - North Beach to North Fremantle.

I reckon since Subi moved to Leederville their numbers have definately increased for sure ..maybe the bar set up you have has helped being able to watch the footy while close to the bar im not sure but its all good for the WAFL if you ask me.

None of us should go to the vfl(afl) either.

Talk it up up up.

Bring friends and colleagues.
Victorians still laugh at West Aussies because of the way we bailed out the vfl and then allowed it to be called it the AFL!

Yep just from an atmosphere point of view its far better going to watch Subi now at Leederville. I like it out on the wing as you get a few opposition supporters out there and you can have a bit of a yell. It's as close as you can come to the WAFL of old supporter v's supporter days.

Being a smaller ground brings the crowd closer together - I think this is the way of the future for the WAFL - Smaller surrounds around the playing fields to make the games more exciting and the crowds being closer to the action.
