A bloke rang up 6PR Sunday morning about that game , he said the atmosphere at the perth derby was piss poor, he sad there was only about 2000 there tops...barely any royals people there.

When older folk like us WAFL diehards can't go to games any longer who will? My kids don't want to go and get pissed off at me because I can't get tickets for West Coast games.

I have no answer.

The competition isn't really supported by the media or promoted properly. Would the general footy public even know the season started on the weekend?

You can't even get attendance figures when web sites like Perth Now state the attendance for the Cl Vs SF game as "around 2000" which means there was probably 1680 there.

Mate I laughed my guts out when I read - about 2000, clearly who wrote that was not there.

I went there , and if there were 1000 people there you would be pushing it.

I know EF support base is not the best these days but the swannies fans didn't seem to show up. A couple in the Shark Pit where there is usually quite a few.

I went along to Claremont v South, and to say the turnout was dissapointing would be putting it mildly, thinking Claremont won the flag , had a flag raising ceromony would of got a few along but no.

Reckon they had about 500 people in the members and you could count the people in the outter - or what is left of it on one hand - about 8 people.

BTW, the ground is a total mess, half of it has been demolised, you cannot get access to the northern end...there is one trasportable toilet in the whole place, mind you with less that 1000 people now turning up that is all that is needed.

it was a bit weird there were a few Clarmont bogan looking supporters there, never seen that before.

Bazza - The club has been totally stuffed around by this development and the council so this year will be a total mess. You're right, the ground is a mess but wait until 2015, it will be awesome trust me.

VERY disappointing crowd though. Put it down to lack of marketing/ promotion of the competition but it is an extremely worrying trend when there is no AFL on and the crowd (for want of a better word) was like that.

You are right - there are few Tiger Bogans around these days - it's awesome I reckon as these blokes are true supporters and are not there to network like a lot of the other crystal set types that turn up now and then.

Mate, in honesty it is no wonder WAFL crowds are so bad when you look at the situation at Claremont Oval, how the hell they can charge 15 bucks to walk into that mess and look people in the eye is beyond me.

What on earth is the story, my understanding was that Claremont were moving out at the end of last season, and that Claremont would play games elsewhere, instead they have a half torn up mess of a ground, they should of moved out of there lock stock and barrel and the place to the bulldozers, how can you expect the paying public to put up with that mess.

All the very well to say it will be great in 2 years, how about moving somewhere decent in the interim.

Now that you mention $15 for entry...the WAFL really need to seriouly look at this!!!

I'm sure this keeps people away. It's over priced and will not attract new or old WAFL supporters to the WAFL.

Yeah true and kids under 18 should be free. $15 is way too much for a kid in year 11 or 12.

Heard from a very reliable source that 2000 at Claremont oval for round 1 could not be the correct figure. Been told the grandstand was not heavily populated and no-one frequented the outer of the ground. My source indicated 1,000 people attended, maybe 1,500 if lucky. For round 1, the official attendance is quoted as 1,702 at Claremont Oval
East Fremantle and Swan Districts at East Fremantle Oval is officially written as 2,473 people attended.
West Perth at The Arena with their big win attracted 2,574 spectators.
And the Perth game at Lathlain drew an attendance of 1,300

I agree $15 is now a bit rich, to be honest I would not mind paying it , if the product and facilties were decent, but charging people to walk into a near construction site is not on.

The old visitors stand section is totally gone and the northen area of the ground is totally demolished, the remaining outter consists of dead grass, a run down burger stand ( closed ) and one set of coates hire toilets. ( the old 1950s brick dunnies have been demolished )

cars are parked all over the former grass bank where public are supposed to walk into the facility( actually just boggy sand now and limestone gravel).

a massive demolision excavator is located behind the scoreboard, looks like its ready to take the rest of the oval out at any stage.

and they charge people 15 bucks!

Rock, it should be $10 or $12 max. I know it's not a big difference but a couple of my more frugal friends don't go very often because of the $15 entry.

As a matter of interest is anyone going to boycott the games played at Rushton Park or Leederville against Peel and the team formerly known as East Perth? On the one hand if that was done in numbers it would send a message (though I am not sure that those responsible would care); on the other hand it would also penalise the clubs we support.

I agree that the future of the WAFL is to engage the kids and to get them to support a WAFL club. However, the difficulty is that there is so much AFL exposure and so little WAFL in the print media. Apart from the ABC's broadcast if you blink you would miss the reportig on the WAFL.
