Yeah I saw it westaussieguy. WAFC have made a real mess of things. Perfect storm so to speak. 8 staff sacked, and the 9 who resigned in protest I think were volunteers.
Never realised until this season that drafted players from the WAFL sees $60,000 go to the WAFC then they cop their whack, $25,000 and give the WAFL club $35,000.
If the G7 don't do something the WAFL will end up an elite under 23 comp. Isn't that what Doro was pushing for (read WESTAR)? I see all the WAFL clubs has jumped on board with Doro's push to get on the WAFC, does that mean he's changed his position?
Hopefully they can find some sponsor and then break away from the pro-AFL WAFC model.

they like to use the word " elite ". there would be nothing elite about it, it would just be an under 23 comp and it would be better described as crap. the existing wafl is elite, it is the best footballers in the country outside of the gay f l. what happens to a bloke when he turns 23? piss off now mate?

Not sure if anyone happened to come across the liftout of WA's 50 Richest People List the other day, but if only 1 of those guys or gals had a passion for the WAFL like most of us on here!
Sarich, Stokes, Hughes, Satterley et al have all had a past involvement if only they could see some long term benefit to getting involved in some way again.
130 years out of WA's 185 year proud history & tradition as the major state based sporting competition has to mean something but unfortunately it is quickly turning into dust under this current WAFC set up.

We already have a decent U/23 comp.

The RESERVES comp is exactly that.

Or what happens to all the current players over the ripe old age of 23? Are they told, sorry fella but you're far too old now. Are they just given the flick?

Well said James, it is all just about cooked, AFL have them on toast.

Well said JB. Coleman pulls out of an election because he is not guaranteed a seat. Spare me please. What did he expect? After all it is an election and we live in a democratic world. Sums up WAFC really

I agree BH but the reality is that it would be just giving money away. There is no format now or in the future where the WAFL could stand alone and be profitable. You would simply be sinking money into a lost cause.

20 years ago the WAFL and SANFL should of joined forces and created a champions league under the AFL. That could of succeeded and in time possibly created relegation and promotion into the AFL but the WAFL and SANFL had their heads so far buried in the sand that they just thought their comps would be looked after and their appeal would just stay the same. Even now with all their huff and puff the last few years over no AFL sides in the WAFL, alignments etc etc they have lost every arguement.
I still think the WAFL and SANFL joining forces could work but it would have to be an independent league with no ties to the AFL or to the WAFC. BUt both the WAFL and SANFL need to get over that they are hard done bye and accept they are not the big ticket in town and stop crying over it is all victoria's fault. The AFL is what it is today simply because the WAFL did not protect their comp or their clubs and then the SANFL followed us. If we had all of held off a while and insisted our clubs join the AFL then this mess would not of happened. We would of ended up with two top tier footy divisions with relegation and promotion, both fully broadcast country wide, rivalry's in tack and everybody much happier. The only people really happy are the Victorians who kept all their clubs going and protected them from change.

Greatwhiteshark: very good post indeed; there has always been a pro-Victorian faction in WA, unfortunately. We could have our own competition, but it may not be semi-professional; it would not particularly bother me, but I would be a minority of not much more than one, I suspect.

ive been saying this for years. it could work and if done right, could give the traditional 8 WAFL clubs and the 10 SANFL clubs a profile and a future beyond 100 years. we are all deadwood with this constant bashing. time for the two prominent state leagues to crank this up. even if it takes 3 years to get it off the ground, its a sure winner. Id bet my house on it. And screw the VFL, that is basically a reserves comp for the AFL Victoria clubs anyway. Or it will be 100% within 2 years.

The backing for a format like this would be very prominent. Sponsorship wise and broadcast wise. And finally assurity locked in with gradual growth for all the traditional clubs. Its the only way for survival. Been said enough.
