They can spend a mint on a needless 24 news channel - yet sport is cut to the bone, or rather are obsessed with broadcasting womens netball. ( do they still do that) compare the ABC of the 70s with a much smaller budget, broadcasted WAFL - plus a 1 hr highlights show ever Saturday night, Broadcasted VFL nation wide 1 hr highlights show, broadcasted Test Cricket, Shefield Shield as well as Ashes from the UK, broacased live Lawn Bowls Jack High plus Snooker Pot Black all this as well as Radio coverage of WAFL VFL and Cricket. Plus Commonwealth Games TV and Radio.

And on another angle, the ABC was always decicated to the Arts as well, pretty much most of Sunday evening was taken up with Arts ( opera, music etc) productions on the TV ( I wasnt really into all of these) however they appeared to have dissapeared totally.

And now??? WTF are they doing with OUR money???

Sorry BC you can't get away with that. Abbott's promise was unequivocal and unambiguous: he said there WOULD BE NO CUTS to the funding for the ABC and SBS. Where are all the posters who were so indignant when the previous allegedly lied about the Carbon Tax? Why aren't these same posters not indignant about the BLATANT LIE vis a vis cuts to the ABC and SBS funding?

According to MediaWatch there will be significant cuts to ABC Classic FM.

There is a huge irong in Abbott making Turnbull announce the cuts to the ABC and SBS given that Turnbull is one of the more strident supporters of the ABC from the Coalition side.

Swan, Turnbull is a supporter of the ABC ( as I am actually, I watch a lot of Ch 2 and a lot of SBS as well) BUT he has made it very clear for a long time that there is a lot wrong with the way they do their business and the way they are spending money making it clear a more efficient ABC that does not try to compete with commercials was the way to go.

I'm sorry that SBS Dateline ( I love the show) is going down to 30 mins and are losing their host, mind you those were all planned long before the cuts were announced.

Classic FM, could roll into Radio National without to much trouble.

Im at a total loss as to why JJJ is tax payer funded - there are ample rock/pop music stations.

Oh yeah just to add to my top post about CH 2 sport ( yes they only had ONE channel) in the 70s, they also covered 1 hour of English FA Football every Monday night AND the FA cup.

Nice try Unka2 and GWS HOWEVER, there were many posters on here who lampooned, criticised, lambasted and pilloried the previous Labor Government with respect to the introduction of a Carbon Tax. Yet those same posters are singurlarly quiet when it comes to the Abbott Coalition Government on their many broken promises (i.e. LIES) on the ABC and SBS Funding etc etc etc. Why is this I wonder!!!

Also, speaking of the Carbon Tax it is remarkable that there has been no reducton in Zone 1 and 2 fares after the repeal of the Carbon Tax even though the Barnett Government increased fares for those two zones as a consequence of the introduction of a Carbon Tax. Why are the posters here as mute as the Members for Swan (S Irons) and Belmont (G Godfrey) on this subject?
