Yeah Western Underwriters/QBE wasn't it.

That was a big turning point - along with the great financial planning by Michael Carlile and others.

The building of the social club out the back in 1971 also. Was a very expensive venture at the time but necessary. To have our own bar and venue to host post match presentations/ functions/dances etc was a great breakthrough. When you look back at old footy budgets from the 50's, 60's, 70's and 80's you realise just how popular WANFL clubs were for social gatherings. There were things on every week. The bar turnover was money in the bank.

Also the introduction of zoning in 1970. It gave every club a good base of players to choose from, including the less fashionable clubs. If I'm not mistaken, all 8 clubs won a premiership in the first 12 years of zoning.

Subi are at it again, I don't have a name but a gun midfielder from Victoria was kept hush hush by WP who have been negotiating for some time then Subi got wind of it and smashed the offer we gave him, expect an announcement on him shortly. Also, Demons fans won't be happy that their 2014 B&F winner is rumoured to be going to Subi too !

I have been reliably informed that the AFL WA name change will not happen !

Leedy, don't know where you get your info from but you're on the money mate. Had a beer at my local, a West Perth supporter was there slagging off Subi for "white anting" West Perth with a shit load of $$$$ for some Victorian. And more to come is what I've heard.
Looks like Doro has the support of all WAFL clubs :S

It worries me that the "WAFC muppets" will see their "importance" fading so they'll keep control of the money and only let a portion slip out of their control. An independent body or at least the G7 Presidents need to control the money, otherwise we'll end up with a statue of Doro and Westar could return.
There is no way Peel/FART should get anything, they were no part of the competition when both local AFL clubs were formed, wasn't 1997 when they came in? East Perth have made their bed, for the 2nd time, so unlucky for them, and Perth seem to be sniffing around with the Eagles, so unlucky, and Subiaco have had an unfair market advantage due to geographic luck, so a deduction of what they gained commercially needs to be enforced.

If you read the WAFC constitution is states that they exist as long as they are responsible fort he management of the AFL Licences, if you were around at the time you will know the only reason the WAFC was formed was when footy in WA went bust The Eagles Indian Pacific company went broke and the WAFL was bust with a massive debt, the State Govt stepped in , pumped 1 Million emegerncy funding into the entire thing, the proviso was that the WAFC would be formed with State Govt acocuntability ( the sports minister is guateeed a seat on the WAFC board ) and that the counsil of WAFL presidents agree to the new WAFC constitution.

East Perth had their own Royals Restaurant. You could get a roast lunch or dinner and a beer almost every day of the week. From my hazy memory I think Swans had a similar thing at Bassendean, though I could be thinking of those old Sunday $5 roasts & panel shows they had back in the day when people actually left their lounge rooms.

Assuming the WAFC hold a lease at Subiaco Oval, with the new stadium ready in 2018, and assuming all AFL games will be played there, what kind of deal can the WAFC do with the Subiaco council/state govt to be released? Without a "blue chip" tennat surely the council/state govt would be open to redeveloping it into a resident & commercial development such as around the Subiaco train station. A payout of some kind would enable the WAFC to combine that with the sale of the AFL licences and enter a joint venture with the WACA, ground sharing, ie match of the week televised so cameras don;t have to be moved and placating the G7 worried about WART & FART gaining a commercial advantage. The GF and state games could be played there, the WACA could be developed with the $$ from the escape from the lease at Subiaco. Any thoughts?

that would be nothing new freezin...we're forever copping it over the Subi Oval seats deal, 5 premierships from 2004 to now, taking Dave Robbins from Perth, Chick and Read from EF, Ali Pickett and Germo from chunder....it's never ending.

I guess that other clubs would use the system as the latte sippers do, but it doesn't remove the fact that they remain at the same level as the peel dorkers and the wce reserves. Guess that makes it a G6.
