And if Perth Oval for example was chosen and developed into what Subiaco has instead do you think Subiaco would have won premierships and be in the finacial position it is in today? By having club rooms/social club where it is by virtue of "geography", that being the site chosen to be the "show case" gives the SFC an advantage that they have explioted to their advantage....then again if they weren't bailed out by the generosity of the other WAFL clubs with $$$$ we wouldn't have this discussion.
PS the similarity of Putin with your image has me nervously looking out for navy exercises.

how Subi would have gone over the years if say Perth Oval had been chosen is pure conjecture. I dont know and neither do you. as for the financial support from other clubs Subi wasn't the first and won't be the last. i recall the club gave SF an interest free loan back in the 80's from memory..so its swings and roundabouts imo.

and I think the Dalai Lama would be mortified at being compared to Putin.

But to put things into perspective, when the WANFL decided that Subiaco Oval would be the main ground, we lost our clubrooms, which became the WANFL members area, we had no bar to trade and make money until 1971 when the new hall was built. There was no incentive to join the club as a member and indeed many chose to become a member of the WANFL instead as that's where the prime seating was located and the bar.

For most of our history we've been on our knees financially because of the ground being chosen.

Yes, in recent years it has worked to our advantage but overall throughout the history of our club it has been an absolute pain in the proverbial.

Unfortunately mate, the benefits of having Subiaco Oval came far too late for all those diehards that supported the club from 1920-1970 etc...miserable years with hardly a cent to our name....no success....before zoning was introduced...so players went where the best offers came from. Members relegated to a tiny tin shed in the right full forward pocket...we never stood a chance

Where are the tissues :(
Keep the focus on the WAFC otherwise Doro will slip in without being noticed.

Tissues? Don't need them. I was lucky enough to have been born in an era of success.

Nevertheless, even with the recent success, we're still not square with house.

I remember after game celebrations/commiserations in a dusty room under the old grand stand. One night early in 69 just after he arrived Brian Sierakowski came around and shook me by the hand and introduced himself...I couldn't believe it..I was 11 and absolutely stoked.

Yeah from what I've read and been told, we were allowed to use the "WANFL" facilities for our post match functions etc ...but the money turned over at the bar stayed with the WANFL, so it was a real problem trying to generate funds. We were in fact, in direct competition with the WANFL in a sense.

Yep subi did it hard - pulled themselves up by their own bootstraps. but then while my memory Is a bit hazy, I believe there were a couple of hundred thousand 'helps' gifted to them by ch7? I think this was the start of their renaissance...happy to be corrected if this is wrong.
