EP metro district is only 8 clubs and only a few of them have traditionally had year 11/12 teams. Ellenbrook JFC is in EP zone but not all of the players at that club are. I can’t find the total number of teams in EP but historically P has at least as many and SD had more.
But I thought the view expressed on this thread was participation numbers were beside the point; it’s the SES that counted.
I only partly agree with that proposition. I think Participation numbers  make some difference, but I don’t know how much.

When was the last time a comprehensive review of zones done displaying every clubs metro and country zones and their wish list and the gains and losses like this one in 2003? The file is too large to attach here but I have posted the link and you can download it from there.

zoning.pdf (bscable.info)

A major review of WAFL Zones was conducted in 2009 and I believe that another review has been conducted in the last year or so.

Maybe not - I thought contributors to this thread agreed that the other non coastal zones (EP and Swans) were terrible too. If that’s right, how have they improved their numbers?
I wish I knew the answer for Perth mate. Maybe somebody from the outside needs to come in, have a look around the metro/country and provide some alternative ideas.

I would have thought at least one player might have been unearthed from their country clubs.

Maybe even with stats and numbers there is no definitive answer.
Hopefully not the Boston Consulting Group.

I went to the trouble of checking the junior club of these state players.

It doesn't tell much of a story either but worth a look.

CLAREMONT: Wembley Downs (3), Scarborough, WCJFC/City Beach, Mosman Park (2), Claremont JFC

EAST FREMANTLE: Brigades GNFL, Manning**, Applecross-Mt Pleasant (2), Chapman Valley GNFL, Rovers GNFL, Rossmoyne

EAST PERTH: Noranda (2), Coolbinia (2), Bussleton SWFL, Augusta-Margaret River SWFL (2), Morley

SOUTH FREMANTLE: Jandakot (2), Fremantle City, Boddington UGSFL, South Coogee

WEST PERTH: Ocean Ridge, Quinns District, Joondalup-Kinross (3)

SWAN DISTRICTS: Kalamunda, Caversham (3), South Mandurah** F/S

SUBIACO: Sorrento-Duncraig, Newtown-Condingup EFL, North Beach**, Kalgoorlie City GFL, Kingsway

PEEL: Rockingham, Collie SWFL, Warnbro
Would that be Rhett Bazzo (son of Steve Bazzo) for Swans?

Amazing research LH, thank you.

But I maintain that the PFC zone is by far and away the shittest. By some margin in fact.

And I don’t want anymore suburbs along Albany Hwy. I want affluent coastal suburbs.
Perth can’t engage with clubs like Gosnells, South Perth etc which are 5 mins down the road in their own zone.

Why do you think that Perth will suddenly change their way and drive across town to a coastal suburb. If they actually get off their ass and do it, how many kids from Cottesloe, Scarborough or Sorrento do you think will want to drive past 2-3 other WAFL clubs to go to Lathlain?

In Perth’s heydays did they have coastal suburbs in their zone?

If it’s your warehouse there’s no room as it’s already full of excuses and finger pointing.

Zones were in place when I went through the system so introduced in the 80s about the last time Perth won a flag?

Out of interest, how many coastal dwelling players lined up in your last flag in 1977

TT I am pretty sure zones have been around for more than 50+ years.
Certainly country zones have been around since the late 1960s, and metro zones were even long before that.

So in other words TT doesn’t even know when zones were introduced.  Pretty sure are you BH?

More than 50+ years, thanks for narrowing it down mate, Captain Cook says hi.
Im clearly not as ancient as you STD.

What year did metro zones commence?

And again how many players in your 77 flag were from the coastal suburbs you so desperately seek?

WAFL League performance? This commenced with you losing your mind over your colts loss to SD!

In short, socioeconomic factors influence outcomes such as participation levels etc.

Longer answer is why has Perth been so poor for so long when other clubs with the same issues in their zones have performed much better? Why has Perth, who had the the third highest number of participants of any zone in 2009, not seen the talent flow into senior football at Perth FC when other clubs have.

If SES was such a big influence on sporting ability then why doesn’t Claremont win every League premiership? Surely it’d easy, we’d just select Christchurch’s 1st XVIII to play league every week. You could select Aquinas’s 1st XVIII. Maybe we shouldn’t even pick footballers, just see whose parents earn the most and select them.

Why don’t we? Because income might buy a new pair of boots, a better education and a gym membership but it can’t buy talent.

What year did zones commence? You said it was an easy question to answer? Or are you just full of yourself trying to make yourself feel better because you want to think you know more than others?
