It's the dream of every WAFL player to play at Optus - at least once in their career.

Events are held at the WACA with next to nobody in attendance. And while this Covid situation makes things a little different, it doesn't change the fact that 20,000 spectator should cover all costs. How many security staff and entertainment host staff could there be?

Fair enough Baz. I’m an expert on only a few Useless things and commercial economics isn’t one of them but I still don’t get how a 60 thousand capacity stadium can’t be viable at one third full/ half full, and full. Is it to do with security costs nowadays? Seems silly that a stadium has to be over half full to be viable. It’s not the norm.

Gate receipts of about half a million dollars is a fair and conservative estimate - could be more. Funny that Bazza crys poor but often posts that he is more than happy to have people turned away from the GF to fulfill his fantasy of having it at the WACA. What sort of business acumen is that?

Don’t pay Ch7 to broadcast the GF at Optus then - might get a bigger crowd as a result.

Playing at Freo Oval will be terrible for the spectators and doesn’t do the GF justice.

Agree 100% TT. We're going to have a compromised GF for the sake of $100k when the WAFC turns over something like $32m each year according to their submission to the current state government enquiry.

Maybe we should have NO grand final and save even more money?

I agree with SS provided it really is just a one-off. It would be nice if someone from the WAFC could come out and confirm that in a normal season, the GF will be played at Optus. The concern is that, whatever happens, the WAFC will declare the GF to be a tremendous success, that the smaller venue made for a better atmosphere, or whatever they need to say to justify it and repeat it. Generally speaking, I certainly agree that having the GF at a suburban ground diminishes the WAFL, but I can live with if it is limited to this year only.

And why can’t Optus host more than one or two games or whatever it is on the one day? The surface looks pristine to me.

20 bucks a ticket? it’s 15 bucks to get into a country game nowadays unbelievable
