According to the West Australian newspaper it isn't the WAFC fault but VenuesWest by charging $100k for Optus Stadium and $20k for Joondalup Oval.

Honestly dont know what all the fuss is about, best thing they have done in ages and makes a hell of a lot more sense than Joondalup , thank goodness they clowns were going to charge 20K to use the dive...LOL.

Good work in making this a thread of its own DD. It is absolute bullshit and even in the unlikely event Subi makes it I won't be going. As I said on the other thread, it's an insult to all involved. The GF should be a special day for the players in particular but also supporters and this decision means that neutrals and others who aren't dyed in the wool supporters of the clubs competing won't make the effort. I'm furious and I know my club won't even be there. How is this promoting the WAFL as the premier state footy league? The ammos play GF's at suburban grounds so now we're rated with them and no disrespect to the ammos as I was an A grade captain myself many years ago. Just bullshit.

BC, once they started playing semis at suburban grounds and that was a while back now the magic was already wearing off, I didnt like it and would prefer to go back to a neutral venue, anyway it was obvious ages ago that the GF would not be at Optus this year, and this is a odd year with Covid and all the economic chaos along with it, last year a dud crowd turned out to the event and they lost a mint, to do that again after this covid year and the losses incurred across footy would be irresponsible imho.

So that left us with a choice of grounds, and I think for good reason Fremantle was the best choice, a lot better than Joondalup and the only other option was Leederville and as SS says capacity there is an issue plus I dont think the Town of Vincent was really keen.

this is no doubt a stop gap covid measure until a more suitable venue - hopefully the WACA wont take too long to get up and running as a permanent WAFL home for all finals.

You’ve got be joking Bazza seriously, a WAFL grand final at a venue where people will be turned away is an absolute disgrace and I won’t waste my time even if Perth are in it which right now I hope we are not.

People had the chance to fill Optus to brim over last two years and Subi before that and they failed to deliver, end result is this I guess until a better more suitable venue can be found

So based on your logic you would have been happy if the WAFC adopted a policy it can be at any of Joondalup, Leederville or Fremantle so long as it is a neutral venue and doesn’t advantage a team with home ground advantage?

Guys I'm with you in that I think it should stay at Optus but the decisions been made and we all have to deal with it. The facts are, this is a severely compromised season, Covid has decimated the economy, on top of that the wasted money by those with their snouts in the trough at the WAFC means that cost cutting has been implemented, like it or not. In the current health and economic environment the state govt isn't going to throw money at anything that wont provide a return, Optus, this year wont provide a return so the next best thing is to choose a ground that can provide a reasonable venue under the current 50% capacity rules. Nothing about this season has been satisfactory, the fact that we actually got a season is the only positive, so time to move on, the decision wont be changed. If you choose to protest by not going to the GF and they get a crowd of 3 or 4 thousand that will only serve to make them feel justified in their decision. If you want it back at Optus then the GF needs to be maximum numbers allowable. I dont believe for a minute that any true blue D's supporter wouldn't walk over hot coals to see their beloved team in a GF for the first time in many decades, same for the Doggies supporters, they have been bridesmaids to Peel, WP and Subi for a number of years so maybe now is their time for redemption. If by some miracle Subi make it, i will be trying my best to get a ticket.

We'd be having the same shitfight if it was played anywhere in the Metro area - of course it should be at the new stadium but it'll cost a fortune for reduced capacity anyway
