When you consider the 200 to 300k some obscure roles were demanding in the leaked WAFC documents,you wouldn't think 100k was a big enough deterrent not to play the seasons showcase game at Optus.

Whys its an insult, honestly mate are you missing something called the Covid Shambles.

There are empty sports grounds literally all over the world, nothing has been normal this year and the financial situation is dire, people out there are losing jobs money and livings all over the place. Its almost certain that there will be more WAFL clubs is serious financial pain after this season and reduced earnings across the board. AFL revenues will dry up as well, now is not the time to be blowing 100K plus renting a 75% empty stadium. Its a tough decision but the right one. In fact even after last year, it was obvious to me that the WAFL GF at Optus was not viable and that was without Covid.

The MCG will be empty this September as will all of Victorian stadiums, and the AFL GF could well be played in Qld. at the ordinary GABBA in front of 25K, that would of seen impossible 6 months ago.

Its a strange year and things wont be the same whether we like it or not.

And I can tell you the SFFC board are not taking it as an insult - so you sure dont speak for the whole WAFL Family.

People had the chance to fill Optus to brim over last two years and Subi before that and they failed to deliver, end result is this I guess until a better more suitable venue can be found

So based on your logic you would have been happy if the WAFC adopted a policy it can be at any of Joondalup, Leederville or Fremantle so long as it is a neutral venue and doesn’t advantage a team with home ground advantage?

I’ve never understood the economics of this stadium business. The WAFL grand final can be expected to get a crowd of AT LEAST 20 thousand surely. Crowds have been influenced in recent history by subis unrelenting domination of being participants, and some say Claremont’s also (we have played in 6 of the last 23 gfs not huge numbers Though). But that won’t be permanent, surely. So the ground would be at least a third full. The mcg hosts a huge amount of games at less than a third full and even more at half full. Where’s Optus’s flexibility at catering to different sized crowds?

It's a whacky year you idiots! Who would of thought that the AFL GF would be played outside Melb. Optus Stadium is terrible for WAFL. 20K looks empty and it echoes. It's not financially viable this year, so get over it!

Neither was Carlton v Hawthorn at Optus but it still happened.

But the WAFC don't have a $600 million line of credit like the AFL do.

The AFL could afford to underwrite that game, the WAFC can't afford to basically set fire to $100k.
