A massive opportunity missed to get a whole new crew along to WAFL with no AFL.

Then there is McGowan who has now allowed two mass gatherings with no enforcement, during a so called State of Emergency...utter BS.

Yet the crowds at WAFL are not allowed over 300.

He should resign.

But Peter the Caped Crusader from subi will be able to sort it all out surely!!

Don’t blame McGowan for not caring about the WARFL., as he calls it, blame the administrators who have not spoken up for us despite, in many cases, bring elected by us to do so.

Not good enough.

AUGUST!!! FMD.

True about the WAFL, they should of been way more on top of this ,,but you cannot have one without the other, MCclown makes the rules, the WAFL go with them, if these idiots in labor had any clue about WA sport and WAFL they would of reached out as a priority to get the thing moving and more importantly Mcgowan should of announced this weekend a total abolition of local restrictions.

Say what you like about about Barnett but he would of been in constant touch with Claremont and WAFL needs through this.

I heard our State Minister for Sport interviewed on the radio today mostly around the leaked WAFC salaries document (of which yes the $9 million paid to WAFC staff does seem over the top) and I was dumbfounded by some of his comments around the WAFL.
He couldnt believe it cost the WAFC $30 million a year to run a "mid tier league" as he termed the WAFL.
Firstly Mick the WAFL is the second best/biggest Australian Rules Competition in the world at least arguably with the SANFL.
Secondly Mick I think you will find that $30 million a year is used to run ALL levels of football in WA not just the WAFL, in fact I dont even think half of that would be used on the WAFL competition alone.
Thirdly Mick if you did not know the above 2 points about our biggest sport in WA/Australia im not sure you are cut out to be a Sports Minister!

I have to state that I thought it was a pisstake that WAFC salaries were over 9 million when I first heard of the debacle - but it seems it is way past true by all accounts
Going to be an interesting justification from Incompetant HQ in the coming months

For anyone interested;

An update from the WA Football Commission Chairman

“Good evening,

I’d like to directly address with you the leak of WAFC salaries earlier this week. At the best of times this is a highly sensitive topic and I fully understand in the current environment sensitivities are at an all-time high. From my perspective this is a deeply regrettable situation and I apologise for the angst it has no doubt caused, particularly for our staff. A full independent investigation is being undertaken on this issue.

There are a couple of points I’d like to specifically address. Firstly, at a headline level, I know the total amount paid in salaries looks like a substantial number but I would ask that you remember it takes a significant number of people to deliver outcomes such as talent academies, competitions, umpiring, indigenous engagement, coaching and school programs across all levels of footy in WA.

Our game has almost 350,000 participants across competitions including the WAFL, WAFL Women, Colts, Perth Football League, Masters, country footy, juniors and Auskick. Our employees are people that love footy as much as you do and have dedicated their careers to the game, and in all cases are working long hours to support the growth and development of WA Football. The WAFC has custody of the well-being of our game in WA and takes that responsibility seriously.

Secondly, we at the WAFC are not immune to the austerity measures footy and sport across the board must endure at the moment. We outlined the drastic steps we took to immediately cut costs in response to COVID-19 on March 26, including an immediate reduction in salaries and from a longer term perspective, we are nearing completion of a full review of the WAFC. This review will restructure the Commission to fit the tough financial position our game is facing, which has been outlined to the COVID-19 WA Football Industry Steering Committee.

The work includes defining our new financial model, developing a short-term strategy to focus on the key areas to re-build our game and to restructure our organisation in line with our financial resources. Our plan is to be as lean and efficient as possible without compromising footy in WA. I had hoped to present this to you all as a finished product in the coming weeks, but given developments this week I think it’s important you’re aware this review is already well underway and nearing completion.

The WAFC had a pre-scheduled meeting this afternoon with the Minister for Sport and Recreation Mick Murray to discuss the plans and logistics around the upcoming return to play and took the opportunity to brief him on the review that is underway. This conversation was held in an open and constructive manner.

I undertake to come back to you in the coming weeks to explain how the reshaped WAFC will look within our new financial model so that we can quickly rebuild football again right across this great State.

I wish you well in your plans for the return of football this season. I cannot wait to see footy commence again in 2020.“

Sincerely,

Wayne Martin
WAFC Chairman

So in summary if not for covid 19 and the salaries not being made public no changes would have been made.
Are these people on another planet and expect grassroots footy people to take them seriously ?

Gavin Taylor should resign immediately and the commission bring someone in who has a background in state level footy and also has the balls to stand up to the VFL...sorry AFL...like they do at the SANFL.

The commission are the ones that have overseen this circus, they should be the first ones gone and need to be replaced and then we might see some decent change.
Their job is to know what is going on at the wafc and they allowed this to happen without saying a word

Can any of the Sharks supporters confirm that a staff member has been stood down for leaking the WAFC salaries?

Also the well known WA football identity on $1000/hr is allegedly a former South Fremantle and West Coast premiership full forward.

Going by what Murray was saying, heads will not be rolling. But hopefully his 'threatened review' and 'grilling' at a planned meeting next week is not just him blowing hot air and yapping like a puppy dog.

Let's be honest Mick Murray is a dill. He's on the way out so he couldn't give a toss about the WAFL and he clearly knows SFA about it anyway. What is it with sport administrators in this country, they are nearly all halfwits??

It's great that a spotlight has been shone on these frauds at the WAFC. Now the government needs to force change and liberate some of the $9m soaked up by the bureaucracy and return it to WAFL and community footy. This is a classic case of the disease of affluence and its a big problem for lots of not for profits. Stop building fkn empires out of footy.

Dead Right about Murray, when you do rarely see him, he struggles to string a coherent sentence together and the rest of the time he is cutting a ribbon on something built by the previous mob.

He is just symptomatic of the current state gov, its a populist big ticket driven admin, to them theres the eagles and dockers and thats it, Mcgowan grew up in NSW and hasnt got a clue about WAFL, zero connection. His arrogance would put paid to any concern, a shrug of the shoulders - no votes in that and who cares at the cabinet table.

Listening to Murray who was born and bred in WA yesterday on the radio he knows very little about the WAFL as well, at least McGowan has some excuse coming from NSW.
Does anyone in the current WA Govt Ministry have a WAFL affiliation at all?

Absolutely none, and if they do they hide it,

Never seen the the local Labor member for Fremantle at a game ever.

Used to see Colin Barnett at Claremont.

Dean Nalder played for SFFC as well, good WAFL bloke.

I have never seen the Fremantle Mayor once at a Derby, up until then every single Mayor attended local WAFL.
