DG, hope there wasn't a Dale Reeves named in the opposition magoos side mate.....bit of history between those two names.

Yeah it was Derby 1st Semi, 20k was a so so mob for a derby final, but only 8k more turned up for the GF, the following year the WAFL charged back with nearly 40K at the GF and good H and A crowds as well, quite a few 5k plus attendances.

I think we can put the big 1989 Gf crowd down to South being there. I hope Sean and Ric show the 1988 1st semi final - the prelim was a horror show. My heart sunk when i saw they were showing it yesterday. It should carry an X rating - they should not be allowed to show it. It is the most painful moment for me following East Fremantle. We seemed to be sailing but alas, it was not meant to be. Who says it is only a game - not a true supporter that is for sure.

Yep, SF v Claremont , which was a re run of the last time they had meet in 81, with many star names still in the mix. The game was a horror for us though. Both Rioli and Edwards went in very under done with injuries.

The sf v c game before in the finals series was a cracker ,with mr magic really impressing.

It was a magic finals series, WP made an appearance with a drawn game, big crowds and lots of atmosphere,

For EFFC the 87 88 and 89 finals series were hugely disappointing. I think we had the cattle to have done better but perhaps the attitude was not quite right under the coaching of Graham Melrose. In hindsight we had got that appointment wrong and should of had Neesham (who had played at the club in 85 and 86) take over from big Ron.

In 1989 30000 attended a double header after the drawn 1st semi between us and WPFC. 16k against the Tigers the following week was respectable post eagles inception. 38K for the GF was huge. The following season the derby 1st semi attracted less than 16000 to Subi on a beautiful spring day. The 2nd semi between Swans and Tigers less than 13K - which was doubled for the replay in the GF that year. But of course West Coast had a great year in 1990 after getting rid of Toddy to make way for Malthouse from Footscray.

Yes mate the double header with WP and EF was a ripper day I went along and watched every final that year, 30K was pearler of a day and that series was really the last roll of the dice for big crowds and atmosphere at the WAFL finals, I remember Trevor Jenkins says on the commentary he hadnt heard noise like this at a WAFL game in many years!

A couple of other things about 1989.

WP won at Fremantle Oval for the first time since 1978.

And a game between SF and C attracted 8000 people, thats never happened since.

Thanks for all your interest, fellas. I'll try to post here first each week with the weekend's schedule, so you can see it first and discuss the games we all remember from our younger years. On Friday night at 8.30pm I'll be showing a real rarity that will have WAFL and West Coast Eagles supporters excited - the entire 1985 Teal Cup final between WA and Victoria, featuring the "Magnificent Seven" who went on to become the core of the Eagles' team of the 1990s. There were also more than a few handy future WAFL players in the team that day at Leederville Oval. On Saturday at 3.15pm, we hop in the time machine for both the 1984 and 1985 "That Was The Season That Was" shows that covered everything that happened in each of those WAFL seasons. Later that night, at 8.30pm, it's one for the boys from the can bar at Basso to enjoy - the 1983 WAFL Grand Final between Swan Districts Football Club and Claremont Football Club. Finally, we'll finish the weekend's viewing with the cracking 1989 Foundation Day derby between East Fremantle Football Club and South Fremantle Football Club at 3.15pm on Sunday. Cheers, Sean

I'm sure I speak on behalf of everybody on here by saying thank you so much for providing this wonderful service Sean. It has been a real life line for all of us footy starved supporters and the quality of the games shown has been outstanding. I look forward to this weekends offerings particularly the 1983 GF....

Very kind of you, Mikeh.
Freezin, you will actually need to go to my youtube channel, rather than my webpage.
The links for all streamed games can be found there.
