1964 GF probably the most famous clash between East Fremantle and Claremont. 30 years later the Sharks turned the table on the Tigers recording one of there greatest ever wins.

I know i'm a bit biased but the barnstorming finish by the 1978 premiership side will never be replicated. With 1 seven match Marlboro cup round to go the Royals were sixth,3 games plus percentage out of the 4 and would've been 100/1 and drifting to win the flag. The last 3 qualifying sudden death games were all nail biters, with the siren sounding as a Alex Hamilton snap sailed through the goals at Lathlain Park to record a 5 point win.The next week we were 5 goals down at halftime against the Bulldogs in front of 15000 fans but somehow escaped with a 2 point victory. We were 5th heading into the penultimate qualifier against our archrivals, but in front of 240000 spectators managed to get up by nine points even though the munchers were with in a kick deep into time on and leapfrogged into 2nd place, which saw the unfortunate TIGERS miss the finals by .001 percentage or couple of point margin, and the boys managed to pull of a miracle to win 9 of the last 10 games with the second semi which we dropped being the only non sudden death game, and that season will never be forgotten by staunch Royal fans.

what was remarkable was that we won the premiership with two of our finest hardly playing any footy in 1978.alan quartermaine the 1975 sandover medallist played only one game all year and peter spencer the 1976 sandover medallist only played 4 in the middle of the year due to injury.some other handy players also missed the joy of being a premiership player.

Yes Chaddy Spencer was a personal favourite of mine and no player broke more bones for the black and blue jumper than ''SPANNER''and it was a crying shame he never claimed premiership success as well as another favourite Archie Duda who had to make way for the more Robust Paul Arnold which was probably a good call by Cable as Arnold had a magnificent finals campaigner and gave us a real physical presence in the forward line.

Easter weekend WAFL footy!

Just so you can plan your weekend around the footy; Friday night's "live" screening is of the 1980 WAFL Grand Final between South Fremantle Football Club and Swan Districts Football Club at 8.30pm. On Saturday, Swans take on West Perth Football Club at 1.45pm in a ripper of a game at Bassendean Oval in Round 16 of 1985. On Saturday night at 8.30pm is a real blast from the past - a full episode of World of Football (hosted at East Fremantle Oval) from the 15th of July 1984 (highlights of all team's games from the previous day are included). And the weekend finishes at 1pm on Sunday with the 1993 Grand Final between Claremont Football Club and West Perth in memory of Tigers premiership star Quenton Leach, who sadly passed away this week.

My brother is stuck in PNG, likely for 6 months.

As he is a garlic muncher supporter its probably the best place for him but I'm sure he will appreciate those games.

Yeah that 1985 SD v WP game was a ripper, 2 point win to Swans, 43 goals scored from memory

Watching round 16 -1985 is like coming from a scifi alternative dimension. When defenders get the footy in there hand players peel off in every direction. When the Ruckman thumps the ball fwd all the midfielders charge down the ground. The fast ball movement makes it almost impossible to flood the defence.Great stuff imo

Mike & GTR as the Aussie band Noiseworks once sung- "Take Me Back"!!!!! :cheer:

That was a great game 22 goals to 21 goals, fast and furious, non stop action, electric footy.

I was entranced by that game all afternoon. Nearly 10000 at Bassendean, sunny day, wonderful skills, free flowing play and goals galore. A high flying mark from Kevin Caton (seemed to be one every week) A little bit sad to think Sidey is no longer with us. How good were some of the West Perth players Murnane,Menaglio, Bewick, Bradmore. In truth we nicked that one I reckon. IMHO West Perth were the better team over 4 quarters but they wasted many opportunities.
Great to watch, thanks Sean Cowan, you are providing a great service for WAFL tragics
