I certainly did watch it GTR what a great game of footy it was.
A galaxy of stars on the field from both sides sheesh the Croweaters had the likes of 4 time Magarey Medallist Russell Ebert, Studley Cornes, Rick Davies, Peter Carey, Robert Klomp, Max James, Paul Bagshaw, Stephen Copping, Michael Taylor, Brian Cunningham etc whilst the victorious Black Swans had Graham Moss, Stephen Michael, Brian Peake, Robert Wiley, Phil Kelly, Doug Green, Joe McKay, Kevin Bryant, Steve Curtis, David Hollins, Keith Narkle, Les Fong, John Duckworth etc.
WA got home by about 10 points in the end thanks to a late Wiley goal but if we had have kicked straight we would have won by a lot more with a number of missed chances, but yet another superb game of footy from that golden era of WA footy of the 70s & 80s.

Just another example to me BH.What the game has lost with the demise of the torpedo punt..How many 65metre punts in that game.

No droppies either - there's a reason for that. B)

If you want to win, you play the percentages. Do the punters go to watch for the unevenly distributed skills, or to see their team win?

Watched a game from the 1983 Emu Export Carnival and saw Ray Sterret kick a torp goal from 55 out and it was still travelling goalpost high when it went through. I miss that stuff.
2x25= Seinor and Michael = 1xBrian Peake

Gee how good was the SD vs EP game at Perth Oval from Round 2 1980 on youtube last night?
The 1st qtr was as good a football as you are ever likely to see with both sides having 6 goals each on the board inside the first 15-20 minutes, the ball movement left todays style for dead in pace and skill.
Simply brilliant footy.

Have to agree for once STD. Fk me what a feral crowd, some fk wit threw a can at one of our blokes in the goal square and I couldn't believe my eyes when some of the dead shits were trying to attack the umps through the police guard as they were exiting the field. Saw a trainer chasing off one of the scrotes, they were swooping in trying to belt them with what looked like rolled up newspapers or something. Good ol mike ball didn't help matters with one of his decisions against them late in the game

That was an awesome game Beas, swans a bit too classy. I heard that toddy rated the 80 team as his best at swans, it was just the dogs were a bit better. Different style of game, the style every fan seems to like, much better than todays. Not sure that those blokes had better skill, some of their kicking actions were pre historic, like roo's, also a lot weren't real confident on their other side, mike smith banana short pass attempt instead of using his right for example, but agreed as far as player pace and speed of the game goes. Simon Beasley, what a 1st qtr! Seems like that season was the turning point for him, stacked on a bit of beef and more confidence, I remember him being a bit of a lanky fag boy before that year. Anyhow he was the difference in that game, along with the performances of blackeby and melrose, although otway and duggen were great also. The best bit for me was curtis slamming a 55m torp through early in the game!
