Even funnier was that East Perth easily beat one of the form sides Claremont a week later in the first semi mate - then got flogged by Swan Districts two weeks later in the Preliminary
5 or 6 years of excellent football around that time hey

true mate -- EP had a split personality -- they could barely beat the PFC all year, and also lost to Old Easts from memory.

Ark that diving mark by Bradley Smith in the 78 GF.Around 35 seconds to go and 4 Perth players positioned around him. Also Doug Farrants goal from the fwd pocket when the the ball was called out of bounds. And maby that was a 50-50 decision.East Perth did look the better side most of the match.

Another great game was on today from Round 1 of the 1984 WAFL season- SF vs CL at Fremantle Oval.
Very enjoyable viewing and so many great WA footballers were playing that day as they did every week back in those halcyon days.
Southy mate you would have very much enjoyed it.

BH -Graham Moss done a great job as coach-not playing in 1984.To get Claremont into premiership contention. They looked a long way off in round1.

Yes it was an unusual scenario where the GARLICS actually reached the 50 odd point margin they needed at the begin of time on in the last quarter;and our unlikely hero was ex DEMON Murray Couper[a man we loved to hate]who only played 1 season with the ROYALS and managed to convert a deliberate 50 metre set shot straight over the goal umpires hat.and we proceeded to bang a couple more straight after that, and we started to heckle our garlic counterparts despite losing the match by 5 goals!

Claremont had a host of great players taken by the VFL vultures in the seasons before 1984 GTR like J & P Krakouer, Hunter, Annear, Ralph, Blackwell, Shaw, Ditchburn etc not to mention Moss retired after the 83 GF also noticed the likes of Aitken, Watson, Reynolds, Beecroft, Hann, Beers etc didnt play in that game either possibly injured?
They still had some bloody good players though mate that ran out for them this day and that year including the likes of Noel Morton, Allen 'Shorty' Daniels, Larry Kickett, Steve Malaxos, Michael Mitchell, Peter Davidson, Bruce Monteath, Steve Goulding, Baden Harper, Michael & David O'Connell, Darrell Panizza etc and we had to work overtime to knock them off in the Prelim that year before getting another lick at EF who gave us a touch up in the 2nd Semi.

It looked like Brownie had SF up and going early too in 84 as they put 24 goals on the board and 31 in the Ressies that day as well and Stephen Michael was out injured as well.

yeah went to that one but 1984 was a bloody rollercoaster year for just about every side even Perth were second after round 2 unbeaten I think or maybe it was East Perth dunno??
We ended up out in the last round to Subiaco and deserved that
We were on our way out as a club for a few seasons until Stan Magro came back as coach
It was a bad year for me - seeing Bruce Monteath in another jumper nearly killed me and Chris Stasinowsky was having his first battles with depression that eventually took his bloody gifted life geez he was a good bloke funny bugger genuine as hell but a troubled genious I guess mate

it was the most weirdest quarter I think I have watched.east perth supporters cheering and happy after kicking a few goals and knowing we would lose easily and still make the finals.

The WANFL lost what would have to be nearly 3 full sides of players in that 5 or 6 year period to Vicco mate - it weakened our league irrepairably as it has turned out many years later
some Vicco sides had up to 6 or 7 interstate topliners in their squads some like Carlton , Collingwood , North Melbourne & Richmond even more
It got worse when we got fooled into the WCE of course (when it was supposed to do the very opposite but then again I guess there was the arrival of that sewer rat Malthouse)
