Geez Demps who gives a toss really......WCE named first or Hawthorn named first.......does it really matter?..anyway with Hawthorn being the defending champs perhaps that "won" them the honour of being named first ....sounds fair to me!

I think you're underselling the Cats unk. If they get the players they're after, they should be something to reckon with. I agree with you on Norths - haven't really rated them as a premier team all year. As for the Eagles, big task ahead, there will be a few teams on the up and up. Can only hope for another '91/'92

West Coast finished 2nd on the Ladder in the H&A and won their first final. Hawthorn lost their first final, so based on finishing position should have been the SECOND named team.

Therefore any reference to the game should have been

West Coast Vs Hawthorn

It pissed me off seeing that!! Is there a rule that says the interstate team cannot be named as the "First Named Team" at the MCG??

Any thoughts!!!!!!!

Hawthorn were the away team.. They wore white shorts WCE wore their home strip..

Thought it through again Freeze
Victorians still laugh at West Aussies because of the way we bailed out the vfl and then allowed it to be called it the AFL!

I agree UNK,if the Eagles can land there targets and get a fit McKenzie back on the park to release McGovern forward and Duggan comes on in the midfield then they should be around the mark.
Maybe not top 2 perhaps 3,4 or 5 finish with the tougher draw.

I reckon the Cats are going to have to give up a fair bit to land those 4 especially if the Eagles and Adelaide match the offers put to Dangerfield and Selwood.
If they can get all those players and with and easier draw then finals is well and trully back on the cards for the cats.

Not as fussed on Selwood s. ( though i would take him) IF eags match they can keep him. I reckon he is a $350,000 to $400,000 a year tops. 3 surgeries on the one ankle is a concern. I reckon Dangerfield is in the bag.

Yeah i think the Eagles will be smart and get as much as they can for Scott.

I reckon the Eagles are going to match the offer to get a better outcome trade wise,i dont think it will be to keep him.
Injuries have cost him and i dont think he fits into Simpson's best midfield line-up and the best 22.

some interesting comments here guys, my thoughts for what they are worth

1) the web didn't cost the game for the Eagles - skill errors did, the challenge for Adam Simpson is what to do with the web when skills are costing them

2) can the Eagles improve next year - the draw will be harder. Yes they get players back from injury, but these guys have been out of the game for some time and will take time to find there feet. I think the Eagles may slide slightly - they will make the 8 but I think lower end.

3) Who is scarred from the game - as has been commented on here already there were some supposed superstars from the Eagles that picked the wrong time to play their worst game. Kennedy - no goals yes the deliver was not good but during the year it was poor at times and he fought. Nic Nat 4 touches and the other one that stood out for me was Yeo with 1 effective touch and 4 free kicks against. He may as well have stayed in Perth if that was his best effort.

4) Selwood - let him go. The crows will match Dangerfield offer as they want something more in compensation. if the Eagles match the offer trying to do the same thing then cats will only land one big trade. (Me thinks clubs are aware of this hence Carlton also wanting a first round pick for Henderson. Cats are going to have to part with some if they want to get them all but beware Eagles because if they match Selwoods offer and then Cats withdraw they have dead wood on their list for 3 years paying decent money. The bloke wasn't in the best 22 this year and the game has past him by.

5) Hawks will be in the top 4 again next year.

more questions than answers, that's why the off season is fun

My guess is the eagles came up with their "web" thing out of necessity. Losing two key backmen and leaving them so thin down there, they either came up with a radical formula, or got belted every week. It nearly worked.

Once they get McKenzie & Brown back I wouldn't be surprised if they ditch it all together next year.
