LS just to let you know that Fremantle finished 6th last year. It goes by where you finish overall, not the ladder position.
Cheers

Assuming Hawthorn won last year. Who was second?.. What was the top six in order last year?

The top 6 last year after the finals were in order

1. Hawthorn
2. Sydney
3. Port Adelaide
4. North Melbourne
5. Geelong
6. Fremantle

Port Adelaide finished 5th on the premiership table after the qualifying round but beat Fremantle in a semi final before losing to Hawthorn in the Preliminary Final. North Melbourne finished 6th or 7th but beat Geelong in the same way so they moved up to 4th on the final table. Geelong finished 5th because they were higher ( 3rd) on the qualifying ladder than Freo(4th). Hope that makes some sense.

The top 6 for this year would then be

1. Hawthorn
2. West Coast
3. Fremantle
4. North Melbourne
5. Sydney
6. Adelaide

we watched the game from Geraldton, it looked simply as a team of pro's against a team not ready. The Darling drop mark when the eagles started to get on top was the nail in the coffin. They got thumped from then on.

I honestly think WCE are at a good age group overall, and they will be serious contenders next year, probably favourites. Once they get McKenzie back it will free up McGovern to be that dangerous pinch hitter. I see enormous upsides to the Eagles especially having a coach who is realistic & honest. I like Simpson, he will learn heaps from that GF loss. Cant write off Hawthorn, they are just an amazing group. Whos to say they cant do it again. North worry me as to whether they have enough class when it counts. They need to be active in the trade period. Bulldogs can improve but unless they get the balance of defence and attack right, they will get exposed. I see clubs like Fremantle and Sydney sliding abit. Both were average at the business end and didn't impress me. I question their methods as it doesn't stand up when it counts. A few injuries and they get unbalanced. Freo need to show some stealth and make a call on Pavlich. I don't think he does enough and some of these older players need to get a tap on the shoulder. Many go one season too long. The same thing happened with Goodes, he was better towards the end of the year, but wasn't doing enough for most of the year. In the end the club itself gets punished.

Hawks and Eagles will be the teams to beat again. Port Adelaide and a few others will jump up too.

I'm not sure you can speculate what will happen next year as this year proved that.. Look at Port everyone thought they would be top 2 & would probably win the 2015 flag.. they didn't even get close & nobody predicted WCE would even get near a GF.

I think a lot went wrong at Port. Ryder found a niche towards the end, but it was too late, and losing Polec was a huge blow for their drive. I also think they got ahead of themselves, they wont do that again. They did beat Hawthorn twice this year, which has to be something they can draw on in 2016.Seems like West Coast will get Lewis Jetta and Jack Redden, both players they could really use.

The Hawks are showing why their club so respected. They made the call on both Hale & Lake 3 days after winning a flag. They know how good they are, but also know having too many old players will hurt their team. Same applies to Brad Sewell who was a massive call given he was still having input. But they replaced him with Langford who was almost b.o.g in last years GF. They make the right calls, and it helps keep the team continually strong. I think back to Fremantle with McPharlin who most people thought wouldn't get thru a season with his injury issues. And in the end Freo payed a price by not acting. I think the same with a few others who should have been given the nudge. It looks like the same could happen at Fremantle again unless something changes in the next few days. Its hard when they are champs of the club, but the club has to be bigger than the individual. If not the club will suffer. A late call based on emotion can cost another players development years, plus it can effect draft selections. Its a fine line. Even now the Hawks are showing everyone up by being decisive, they don't procrastinate.

Eagles will have to give up a bit to get both Jetta & Redden. If McGovern is been groomed to go forward as reported, then a big will be off loaded. Either Sinclair or Lycett not enough to get a deal done methinks.

Eags have a HUGE upside, especially if they land thier targets. Not fussed on North as i think they have peaked. Freo, not sure how much more Ross can get out of some of those blokes.
Being a bit biased IF Cats get dangerfield Zac smith henderson and maybe s selwood, and given a reasonable run with injuries, could be around the mark. Dangerfied selwood ( x2) caddy duncan guthrie, aint a bad mid field.

I know to some this is probably a non-issue particuarly given the Eagles poor performance BUT WHY were West Coast advertised in the Budget on TV and on the scoreboard as the second named team. All references made to the game were:

Hawthorn Vs West Coast

West Coast finished 2nd on the Ladder in the H&A and won their first final. Hawthorn lost their first final, so based on finishing position should have been the SECOND named team.

Therefore any reference to the game should have been

West Coast Vs Hawthorn

It pissed me off seeing that!! Is there a rule that says the interstate team cannot be named as the "First Named Team" at the MCG??

Any thoughts!!!!!!!
