MSS83, thats pretty sad and sounds very similar to what Joondy had to put up with when they moved out to South Gero.
The trophy/memorabilia room is a vital part of any clubs fabric and history.

It seems bizarre to me that EF have gone this way. What a shame.

It is a problem that some Amateur football clubs in the PFL have experienced also when they have given up there old clubrooms to get new club rooms run by the council. They have lost all say in the running of the clubrooms and have a very limited use of them and in a lot of cases have no permanent space for any club related items eg memorabilia furniture etc.
A big wake up call to all sports clubs in Perth. Don’t give up your old clubrooms and and move into a council run facility.

Who's been steering the ship down there with this redevelopment? According to JT and Micale a lot of basic things have been overlooked such as facilities for the media to film and broadcast the games which means a chunk of the 470 odd seats will be taken up by media.

And apparently the dugouts haven't been installed yet and will block the views of the lower rows which are apparently close to ground level. No application has been made for a liquor licence and Townsend reckons you won't play a game there in 2024.

And the WACA is not an option for you in 2024. And your finances are rooted. Where does all this leave you? Sounds like bad planning.

All this on top of the fiasco about fences/no fences.

Listen from about the 1hr 20 min mark. JT suggests you might be entering into an "arrangement" with the Eagles.

Apparently the Liquor License is yet to be granted and is up for public discussion, quite bizzare, one would of thought the existing EFFC Club licence would have been transferred. Sounds like a shambles.
Perhaps because EFFC won't be the license holder nor in control of the venue, ie like Venues West controlled the upper function room at Joondalup which kicked members out after 8 o'clock. Micale mentioned something about Belgravia, sounds like they will be the venue manager. Whoever they are?

EFFC no longer in control. Peel I believe have full control of their government grant funded facilities and WP I think are now in control of theirs. Hopefully my club will be too.

Actually, that is exactly what has happened, EFFC will no longer have a licensed club, instead the entire complex catering has been contracted out to a provider on a commercial basis, who will provide food and drinks as a multi usage venue with bowls and the gym etc, very similar to Venues West set up at Joondalup, so it's going to be interesting how or if it works.

Also it was disappointing to see they have located the bar area on the ground floor with the Gym area on the top tier with the best view over the ground,  unlike most places the bar wont overlook the ground like Claremont etc.

There apparently is a flat lawn area where a small can bar tent will be set up like Joondalup.

It always seemed the wrong way to go to me, a shared top notch redeveloped Fremantle Oval with a big new facilty owned by both clubs would of made far more sense, with a game in Fremantle every weekend of the season.

Interesting comment about the license situation Bazza. It took WP around 28 years to change the VenuesWest stranglehold on the revenue stream from liquor sales - so if we consider a figure of around $40K a year turnover (probably conservative) from liquor x 28 years = $1.12M.Yes costs have to be taken into account but I would think a profit of around $800K would have been achieved.Mm that figure sounds familiar.Obviously EF situation might not be exactly the same but I don’t think they can afford to lose revenue like that and survive. The board may have been swayed by less maintenance costs v losing some liquor income but I don’t think it is likely to work out for the better.Incidentally, after a relatively short time,we were able to eventually display our memorabilia and history and maintain our link in that area with our members and supporters.

So no gate receipts and no bar takings. Ouch!! 🤕
No ability to hire out the function room I bet as it's not controlled by them.

You would want to hope as a trade-off they are paying little to no lease fee.

If what is being said is true and we’ve handed over the bar (and gate), I can’t see how we make money. Who would seriously give away control of the bar (and facility)???

Club should’ve ran the facility

The penny is starting to drop KC. Claremont it sounds like own theirs or have full control of the lease which includes surrounding businesses like Revo Fitness and a cafe. IGA is part of that building also and a pretty decent under ground carpark.

I think I need to have a conversation with a couple of people at my club on the weekend.

And in the dire financial situation your club is in, how are you going to recover your losses from the past couple of seasons? No bar, no gate?? Sausage sizzle? You would require a license for a can bar that all supporters can access I imagine.

I thought someone said when this was announced, that one of the ways of making up for having no fences was bigger crowds would result in higher food and beverage sales. Got to have the facilities for that.
