Not sure if it’s been mentioned, but Sturt opened their Unley Oval up as a public space many years back, maybe 20? It seemed odd to me at the time but at a game it was ok.
They put up temporary fencing at home games and have a bunch of security. I went to a Sturt v Norwood game about 2012 and the place was heaving, great atmosphere.

Not keen on thr new ground I have a tour this Thursday so I guess I'll see how it is. It looks small and no coverf or wet weather I can see how we are going to make money. Time will tell

East Fremantle Ovak looks dreadful and like an Amateur football venue now. I would rate it behind venues like Gosnells Oval , Kelmscotts John Dunn , Kingsway Reserve , Wanneroo Showgrounds and maybe even Mannings new ground .

Got some photos?

Victorians still laugh at West Aussies because of the way we bailed out the vfl and then allowed it to be called it the AFL!

From what I can see it looks like the East Fremantle Oval is going to an embarrassing venue for the WAFL and East Fremantle. No fence and free entry that is ridiculous. It doesn’t look to have any atmosphere and yes there are at least 6 AmateurFootball venues that have better facilities and more atmosphere.

Went past on weekend, does look pretty down market and built to a budget, a lot of old atmosphere will be gone, obviously the Shark Pit is history whole new era of PC sport I guess.

It's hard to understand the idea of no fencing or entry fees, I know the EF council are supposed to provide for that income shortfall but as someone said previously, Leederville oval is open to the public everyday except game days when the various gates are closed, probably the case for every WAFL ground except maybe the WCE fortress who wouldn't want the common folk getting too close to their primadonnas.

I am staggered very few of you understand how a redevelopment occurs like this.

Fact 1 - We needed new facilities.
Fact 2 - We couldn’t afford a redevelopment  Fact 3  - EFFC didn’t own the land, the state
              did.
Fact 4 - WA state labor tipped in 26.3m which
Includes the additional $4m last year
              For rising construction costs
Fact 5 - East Fremantle Council tipped in
             $6.7m
Fact 5 - EFFC contributed $0.00 to the
             development

Based on these facts above, how can anybody possibly think the board had much say at all as to the facility quality, seating quantity or the size of function rooms?

I also see some muppets here complaining that there is no fencing. Again, use your brain, it’s a community precinct for ALL of the east Fremantle residents. Most of our members are not east Fremantle residents.

I think the fact it isn’t a run down unusable space and now combines a public gym, new bowling greens, new change rooms and an overall more appealing look is brilliant.

as a ratepayer of EF that lives on the street the oval is on, I am stoked I don’t have to look at a shitty 1950s fence, overgrown trees and the back of a delapadated scoreboard.

point is, stop being so bloody negative and enjoy the fact we have a new facility and for Christ sake, before you bag the board out about the development go do some research into who funds this and who owns it.

I mean we just won a league flag, stop being so farkin negative because you all hate change…

Sounds like you had a big say at local council meetings about the design and access to EF Oval Not Gary. Hope you don't mind I park my bus in your verge when the Demons play at Moss St, or is it Allen St?

Or can I just drive onto the unfenced ground and park my bus on the outer and honk my horn every time the Redlegs score a major?

Hopefully the kids don't make too much noise and upset you precious locals at the new skateboard park at the Marmion St end of the revamped ground Gazza.

Well you won't be honking your horn very much DD if you are waiting for the Redlegs to score a major before you honk it.
