.....And how much will a second referendum be costing? In the millions of dollars probably?

For a start as this one should have been and most refs are held at the same time as a general election, that cuts the cost down to a fraction of what we are about to spend in October in a crazy expensive stand alone, there have only been two stand alone ref. in federal history all the rest are held at same time as an election. this one is costing an obscene $600 Million to run, plus another $100 million on Gov Adds to push the yes vote.

Do agree though if this tanks we should put the entire idea on the back burner for a while rather than be rushing to polls again, far more important issues at hand

In the meantime, why doesn't the Minister for Aboriginal Affairs just form an advisory council and see how it goes, he could do that over night without all this carry on.

Whats the problem with a structure that is permanent and cannot be removed by Governments present and into the future?

Latest poll has the coalition ahead of Labor for the first time since the last election. Why the fuck does federal Labor fuck it up everytime they get into government?

The opposition to the Voice is growing by the day amongst Aboriginal people. Albanese will be out the door before long one way or another either at the next election which he has threatened the Greens to bring on early, or knifed in the back when the party gets nervous about losing their jobs again.

Dwert the problem is that if, like all past schemes, panels, boards, authorities and the like to do with A & TSI peoples fails to produce the results we are told the Voice will do, we are stuck with it forever, no way out. There is a mounting opposition amongst first nations people, many divisions, so how are these separate national, State, regional and local government voices going to agree on anything within a practical and reasonable time frame without development grinding to a halt. it is mining and agriculture that drive our economy, both have the most to lose if the system slows or grinds to a halt. Is it not better to set up the Voice structure, see if it works, iron out the kinks and then if/when all is hunky dory, take it to the people.

Anyone who thinks the voice will improve the situation for indigenous is either too stupid to think for themselves and gets sucked into these virtual signalling trends or they stand to gain financially from its creation.
Most indigenous people don't sit in either of those groups.

Be curious if anyone here could share a single actual verifiable improvement the voice is planned to make to indigenous lives? And by that i mean real actual change, not the airy fairy rubbish spewed by Labor.

Putting it into the Constitution is exactly the problem, because if it goes wrong you need another referendum to take it out.

On top of that having a separate body that has special powers, rights and privileges  that are restricted to one group to the complete exclusion of others is the complete opposite of everything a liberal democracy should stand for , no other modern liberal democratic nation has such provision in its constitution as its an anathema.

Under very old laws NZ has reserved maori seats in its parliament but legally you don't actually have to be maori to sit on them and they have the same voting power as anyone else, on top of that  maori make up 17.5% of the NZ population.

Malaysia has special laws that give priority to native ethic Malays , but Australia and most of the world are pretty critical of them as they are race based and discriminate against ethnic Chinese and others, which is why Singapore broke away from Malaysia. Yet some think bringing in the same principals here is somehow a good idea...bizarre.

Baz, Why do you object to Aboriginal and Torres Strait people being acknowledged in our Constitution? Its merely a statement of fact about their connection and place in our history? Majority of Aboriginal people want it in the constitution as we dont want it to be scrapped by a future government because its from a different political ethos..
Also an Advisory body that can only advise the Government and the Government will then choose to act on the advise or not whats the problem?
