Turned out worse than I expected but not much, as predicted Labor will have total control top to bottom Upper and Lower houses with virtually no opposition to speak of, the importance of a strong and effective opposition cannot be emphasized more than ever.

The role of the media will now be under the microscope, with the stokes monopoly well and truly up the clacker of McGowan, the ABC a virtual ALP propaganda machine, that leaves just Nine/WAtoday/6pr as the only real hope of holding the government to account for at least the next 8 years.

Absolute power breeds absolute corruption.

Now to the Libs, I put the blame well and truly at the feet of Liza Harvey and the damage she did in calling for the borders to be open.

How could the great party of Sir Charles Court the most powerful WA first States rights party end up being the pro Federal party, WA Conservatives have always been about States rights, and saying get stuffed to Canberra , it didnt matter if Whitlam Fraser Hawke of Keating WA always came first.
They need to get back to the party of Court, WA first, Mining development and telling Canberra to get stuffed. Weirdly State labor did a back flip a long tradition of central power - they saw some fertile ground in grabbing the parochial WA vote.

Anyway its good to be int= the ONE and only Liberal held seat in the City, Cottesloe will continue to be the beacon of freedom and liberty to those trapped behind the iron curtin, a bit like West Berlin. :)

It seems to me that a lot of the eastern states commentators know very little about the political climate here in WA and know even less about the psyche of West Australians.  A case in point was Paul Murray (Sky News Australian) attempting to disparage McGowan as not being a West Australian when a significant number of West Australians weren't born in this state.

McGowas isnt from WA he's from Newcastle and his parents came across from NSW and when asked if they would stay here they said,,Pass.

This is not a healthy state of affairs for our state to be in. Politicians take leave or quit. It is going to be a massive ask for David Honey and Libby Mettam to stay the course for the next 4 years. It might be a bridge too far. It is quite extraordinary. I don’t know what the answer is. Reminds of the Humpty Dumpty nursery rhyme.

I’ll have a dig at these big shot business men and ex politicians who had a crack at Zac Kirkup, if only you had the courage to step up and put your balls on the line like Zac did instead of taking cheap shots from the back rows. Time for you self proclaimed alpha males to put your money where your mouth is and run for office. Cowards.

Disgraceful stuff from the party back roomers as you say sticking a youngster in the chair just to save anyone else from owning the loss, that's Zacs career up in smoke at a very young age, no one comes back from leading a catatrphic loss like that, burnt up and spat out. which was their plan all along.

One outcome of this election is that the Liberals have achieved gender parity in the Legislative assembly without resorting to quotas! LOL

It has been frankly amusing, bemusing and confusing to watch eastern states's journalists and Liberal politicians who have railed against states closing their borders given the Liberal Party politicians of years gone by lauding the rights of states.  Also, it is stunning how little some know about West Aussies.

With respect to where the blame lies, certainly Harvey opposing the Labor government's action did not go down well.  However, let's not forget that the Morrison government actively supported Palmer's High Court action.  Further given the dominance federally the Liberals have been in WA it is inconceivable that a Liberal PM would not visit WA during a state election.  Gareth Porter noted that Morrison has not conducted a radio interview with WA journos since August of last year.

With respect to the federal implications I would project that the Liberals will have a nett loss of 4 to 5 seats here in WA (including 1 due to the redistribution).

I am not sure what your point is re McGowan's parents not staying in WA given their ages.  With respect to some trying to use the fact that McGowan was not born in WA against him was just plain stupid and shows a complete ignorance of the WA psyche.

Kirkup agreed, a decision that showed no political judgment or awareness.  How could he think that becoming Liberal leader, when he did, would help his chances of winning Dawesville?

Predict whatever you like Swanny my boy, but with Albo as leader Labor ain't going to make big roads in WA or anywhere else for that matter.  Labor needs to give him the flick now and install someone who's a bit more Prime Minister material.

With respect to the federal election in WA do you expect that the LNP will have at the least the same number of House of Reps members as they currently have?

Swan42,Bazza, it is true that Menzies  and Sir Charlie would not have underrstood  the Libs at this election. People in the east need  to recall that  the  'Brisbane line' was real.
