Just adding a bit to Grumps post. Watching the ABC coverage last night. With Mike Nahan making some valid points.
Talking to David Honey who made the point last year. The 2pp was 53 v 47,before covid19.Against everything the federal LNP stands for. They backed Clive Palmer and tried to interfere in a states rights. And force Wa to open our borders.Lisa Harvey loyally followed there direction and signed there demise.

This result really does highlight that state elections are fought on state based issues. If a federal election were to be held tomorrow there's no way we'd see a 10% swing to Labor nationally. The fact that the Libs in WA went from government to potentially 2 seats in 4 short years is a disgrace and the behind the scenes leaders within the party like Collier et al should be ashamed of themselves and fall on their swords.
I would think that we the people will be Sneakers opposition party and WE need to hold them to account. I would think that folk should get on the FB/web pages and use them to ensure accountability is upheld, of course with the rider that numpties get sorted.
We live in a time where intelligent people are being silenced so stupid people won't be offended

This is not a healthy state of affairs for our state to be in. Politicians take leave or quit. It is going to be a massive ask for David Honey and Libby Mettam to stay the course for the next 4 years. It might be a bridge too far. It is quite extraordinary. I don’t know what the answer is. Reminds of the Humpty Dumpty nursery rhyme.

I’ll have a dig at these big shot business men and ex politicians who had a crack at Zac Kirkup, if only you had the courage to step up and put your balls on the line like Zac did instead of taking cheap shots from the back rows. Time for you self proclaimed alpha males to put your money where your mouth is and run for office. Cowards.

I watched the ABC election coverage and was impressed with the way Nahan dealt with the result, fall out and his opinion of Sneakers.

He congratulated McGowan on the result, he praised him for the covid stuff but said quite clearly that the result was not just abt that issue, that it was abt policies or lack thereof from the liberal party, that it was abt the loss of faith in the party and its lack of commitment plus the bailing of the previous leader her stand on the borders. He also praised Sneakers for his handling of the Palmer issue saying that it was handled very well by McGowan and appallingly by the state and federal liberal party. All in all I thought wow now that is someone who knows how to deal with the issues confronting the libs.

Swing to Lisa Simpson who was abt as gracious as a spoilt brat. She made it very clear that it was abt popularity! Nothing abt policies, nothing abt leadership, all in all nothing.

I do not think that it is a good thing to have such a weakened opposition and one thing I will be watching is how Sneakers deals with it and how gracious he is! Me the first thing I would do is have a lunch with the LNP and Libs to talk abt what can we do to help the state and not allow parliament to become just a bickering place.
Nahan was certainly in an invidious position.  He showed class in his commentary reminiscent of the former member for Hawthorn, John Pesutto, who was commentating on the Victorian state election in the last election where he lost his own seat.  Nahan was also particularly scathing of the Liberals which obviously was coloured by his own experiences.

I would expect that once the dust has settled McGowan will be providing the necessary money for the Liberal members of parliament to operate as a political opposition.

Whilst the Council's numbers are yet to be determined, ABC's Antony Green projected that Labor will be around 22 of the 36 members.  Notwithstanding there are some voters who vote differently in the Assembly to the Council serious questions need to be asked about the makeup of the regions in the Council.

And to preempt a likely argument in what way is it different Labor having a majority in both the Assembly and Council to the LNP having a majority in both the Assembly and Council?

I am predicting big problems for the Morrison government. This result plus the self implosion from the recent sex scandals is going to have big implications at the next federal election. Porter and Reynolds are on the nose. The only thing that can save them is the next federal election is at least 12 months away.

Morrison is stuck between a rock and a hard place.  If they both retired for medical reasons it would mean a by-election in Porter's seat which is the one that is likely to go in the redistribution.  If both remain they will continue to dominate the news cycles.  The alternative is to call an election to be played out in the months following the scrapping of jobkeeper and reduced unemployment payments.

On the PM - I read this morning that he is taking credit for the Labor election success in WA

That in itself is an incredible statement and potentially a quite dangerous one , an early election would be almost suicidal if that is an official position of the Fed party you'd think

NSW is heavily on the nose with all the corruption emerging from her side and close to it - although I think Morrison has done a resonable job he is staring down two hot smoking barrels at the minute despite Andrews and his hopelessness

Albanese just needs to look half decent in the coming months

NSW Labor could also heading for a COVID Wipeout in their next state election with polling showing their lowest primary vote in 120 years is at 23.9%. Fortunately for them their next state election is not until March 2023,

It seems to me that a lot of the eastern states commentators know very little about the political climate here in WA and know even less about the psyche of West Australians.  A case in point was Paul Murray (Sky News Australian) attempting to disparage McGowan as not being a West Australian when a significant number of West Australians weren't born in this state.
