BTB no one here is claiming to be a footy expert. The topic is 2013 line up and thats what people are writing about.

I agree that the list is still a bit thin and could definitly look stronger with 4-5 A grade players. Simple fact is though those players are expensive and cost a fair bit in points. The club IMO has tried to address the positions that needed strengthening and hopefully like all clubs at this stage of the year, the recruits can have some sort of an impact throughout the season.

Out of interest with our current squad list pretty much formalised who would you pick?

One player everyone has forgotten about is Scotty Siekierka. At 29 he's not past it surely, and could slot in nicely on a half back flank, giving our defence some experience. I think you'll find that Dan O'Sullivan might be club captain this year, with Ali Smith as his deputy. I don't know this for sure and am only speculating. Here's a possible team for Round 1:

FB: Hodge - Kane - Billings
HB: Siekierka - Tunbridge - Tedesco
C: O'Sullivan - Bevan - Bateman
HF: Moody - McInnes - Reimers
FF: Jacobs - Stack - Colledge
R: Leyendekkers - Smith - Sketcher
Res: Eyres - Irons - Leeson - Florio

Others - White, Risol, Johnston, Donovan, Salmon, Houghton, Vidot, Fry, Stark, Richardson, Murray, Manuel, Holland, Rodgers.

Inj: Busher, Mather

There's a fair bit more experience in that team than I'd imagined. Obvious doubts though: tall defenders (Risol and Johnston might add strength here), and Ruck (both Eyres and Leyendekkers are relatively inexperienced. Is there a player who could pinch-hit ruck up forward?). We also lack a bit of depth. Not many of those 'Others' demand to be included in the team. BUT I've not noted down many of the young colts' guys from the last year or two who could surprise. I've also left off most of the non-Perth AFL players and some of our recent unproven recruits.

I know we were chasing Siekierka at some stage in the off season, not sure where that all went but after tearing his hammy off the bone it will be a god effort to get back
Beneath the Southern cross i stand, on Bassendean Oval, can in hand, Swan Districts, you Farkin Beauty!

Back line too small. Houghton would add height but I think he has a broken hand. Will be his year if fit. Donovan in the starting 22 for sure. Will Fry make the next step this year? Play Eyers at every opportunity. He competes competes competes. BTW I initially did not rate him. Surly Irons after two years with Port (although mainly training) would be match ready for a start.
Victorians still laugh at West Aussies because of the way we bailed out the vfl and then allowed it to be called it the AFL!

Mr AFL wrote: It'ds incredibly hard to pick a team at the moment until we see some scratch matches. However I'll have a rough pick now that we have announced some more recruits.

Back

Chris Billings David Johnston Sean Holland

Nick Kane Jarrod Risol Matt Tedesco

Reserves

Matthew Hunt, Josh Salmon, Chris Vidot, Joel Houghton (been trainign with the backs), Jarrod Irons, Julian Jacobs.

Midfield

Alistair Smith Brett Hodge Matthew Moody

Reserves

Jarrod Irons, Julian Jacobs, Ashley Smith, Joel Leeson, Michael Florio, Daniel O'Sullivan, Dene White.

Forwards

Simon Donovan Fraser McInnes Kyle Reimers

Haydn Busher Christian Eyres Brennan Stack

Reserves

Simon Tunbridge, Brant Colledge, Harrison Morgan, Bradley Fry, Joel Leeson

Ruck

Mitch Leyendekkers Paul Bevan Chance Bateman

Reserves

Daniel Murray, Harrison Morgan

Team

Billings, Johnston, Holland

Kane, Risol, Tedesco

Ali Smith, Hodge, Moody

Donovan, McInnes, Reimers

Busher, Eyres, Stack

Leyendekkers, Bevan, Bateman

And right there is why i dont have confidence in what our back line will be...that line up is horrible sorry!

Hodge in the center????
I reckon one of your best players who suits that role has to go in the guts.

In my opinion if we play Bateman as a midfielder he will spend only half a game(in total) out on the field whereas if he played forward with just the odd run(when needed)in the midfield he could play 3/4 to a full game each week.
Its not like we have an abundance of elite players and a guy like Bateman we have to have out on the field for as long as possible.

From reports of posters on here Busher and Houghton are not fit so no point putting them in any lineup.

I would be surprised if Matthew Moody had the tank and pace to play accross the centreline or in the midfield.
Half Forward/roaming forward for mine.

Tunbridge at CHF and Colledge at least tried in the Key centre half back postion.

Eyers at Full forward you have to be joking.

Full back is the interesting one...if this Johnston doesnt work out who plays there?????

Johnno,
I know about the edit button when posting,i think you have an hour to edit your post then the edit button is disabled.
Its a delete button,to get rid of a whole post that im wondering about.
There doesnt seem to be a provision for this??

We have just completed an extensive recruiting campaign aimed at adding height and experience to the team. It is not an unreasonable expectation at this stage that most of those recruits will step into the team and be valuable additions.
Having said that, if they do not come up then some will be expensive and wasted ressies players.
Risol, Sketcher are 10 points, Reimers will be a 12, I think, Stark a likely 10, the three Peel boys I'm not sure but suspect they will be 5 or less each, Rowling and Morgan are 1 point players, as are Bateman and Irons.
I will be watching with great interest from now on to see how they all match up during the preseason training and practice games. They must be given every opportunity leading up to round 1 to show their worth.

surely College will be used up front, only young but if any of you Perth boys have actually seen him play, the kid has a great pair of hands and plenty of stamina....wasted up back IMHO....surely McInness and Colledge rotating through the key forwad positions and Tunbridge swinging between defence and up front as any good utility sized player should do will be more beneficial for Perth....

Can tell you now Colledge is gonna make his name for WCE as Reiwoldt running style key forward....since you have the kid for only a year I hope you get the max out of him quality wise....I really hope Howson for EF plays up front this year...because in 2014 that's where Howson will be for Peel or Freo....
