Surely you can understand folk within WAFL footy circles when some Perth and most opposition fans roll their eyes upon hearing all this pre season spiel from some of you Perth boys?

I have been on these forums for about 7 - 8 years and every year it's the same PFC rambling.....I commend you for it, but why don't you guys try another tack and say fudge all till mid season....different approach, different result and all that?
Got no probs with being all positive and that, but some of it is unrealisitic at times, over rating players etc, excuses when losing etc...just easy fodder for us opposition vultures to prey upon....

So tell me what and who is different this year at PFC compared from previous years?

The 2 longest premiership droughts ATM (excluding Peel) Perth= 35 years East Freo= 17 years so you should probs keep a lid on bagging other clubs about lack of recent success

geez considering that you state that you have taken a few dozen A Grade wickets and apparently wickets in leagues all over the UK and Europe, you constantly seem to show your Mitch Johnson IQ instead of a Glen McGrath IQ, more often than not here on these forums.

Read my post again Mr A Grader, I aint bagging Perth's lack of failure, I am well aware EF are well into the home straight matching SD illustrious track record of 20 year droughts. Thank god for that SD one man bandit called Andy K,who ended SD 20 year drought misery in 2010......or 1990 would be an even more distant memory for you.

The question I asked is what is different this year to previous years at PFC.....I thought Brian Leys was making in roads changing Perth's inner culture, Ms Bradley the time before that and now Marty is going to do it.....same old same old,.....no problems with being positive, just change the record from time to time eh.....

Fair point, I remember during the Eastuagh years they sent senior players on leadership courses, all vvery well intended I am sure but I think this club needs to keep it simple. Start with getting the right coaching structure in place and there should be 1 or 2 strong people there to lead and for players to look up to. That is where the club lets itself down year in year out, not enough experience on the coaching front and players get disenchanted and leave.

The right coach will find he right leaders among the player group to set a good example on the track and the field. Trouble with a lot of our players is they are too polite or frightened to speak up i reckon. A lot of supporters are bagging Leon Davis but there's your captain right there. Make him captain and let him lead, he knows the game inside out and in fact he should be Captain and one of the assistants and possibly our next senior coach. He has already declared an interest in coaching.

Knowing this club they will let that opportunity slip and he will end up coaching somewhere else and involved in a premiership because he "doesn't fit the Perth model" or the ideals the club is looking for. Seems like the PFC are trying to make Lathlain a figjam free zone. Trouble is it will end up a spud farm instead. It's not far off it now.

But if he doesn't turn up to training all the time then why would you make him captain? I can see your reasoning behind it but I would have Paul Bevan there first. If Leon's still around but him in the leadership group and give him responsibilities in the coaching department. If he can build relationships there he may stay around after he finishes playing in a coaching capacity.

Leon had his chance to show his leadership skills last season and IMHO he missed the opportunity. The leaders must lead by example both on and off the field and not please themselves when they will train and when they will not.
I believe the coaching structure has been strengthed with assistants Williams, Pickering and Broadbridge backed up by Saunders as ressies coach.
I would have Bevan, Bateman and Reimers in the leadership group with perhaps Moody and a couple of youngsters in Busher and Smith.

Bevan confessed himself he struggled with the bigger grounds over here and didn't have much of an impact on the field like you might expect from a player of his calibre and experience. To me that would show the lack of options we have to replace Ross Young as captain. Aaron Zucconi would have been an obvious choice if he didn't only turn up for half a season last year and there's already talk of him not being keen again so his motivation at WAFL level has big ??? all over it.

Leon has an abundance of experience and once it was clear Ross Young was not going to stick around I would have thrown Leon the challenge. With all the departures he's not stupid, he knows we are short in many departments and he might be struggling for motivation now but it sounds like he was cast in the "high maintenance" basket long ago and his talents will be wasted.
